Can anyone help getting rid of noise when using DOF?

I let this super simple scene rendering for 20 minutes and the noise in farther areas is still too strong.

Almost everything is set to defaults in Corona.

Both primary and secondary GI at PT and GI samples at 4?

Nope, the default: primary - PT, secondary HD Cache, samples at 16. Also, I'm using a box image filter (width 2, blurring .5)

Here's a render that took 40 minutes to render.

GI secondary and primary set to Path Tracing, gi samples set at 4. Way too noisy for a 20 minutes render.

Hi,
I'll look into it when I have some time, can you send me this scene in the meantime?

I've made some improvements in DOF sampling, but its still quite slow in this type of scene - blurring directly visible lights will probably always be hard. Also, to get best convergence, don't use custom bokeh shapes with gray values, only black & white. In the example you are using colored one, which gets translated to gray. Espetially shapes with very dark gray would take ages to clear up.

Has Corona been updated using the Embree 1.1 code posted August 2012?
It says it improves on motion blur which I would figure is close to DOF.

Yes, it builds the structures much faster, but there is no improvement in DOF, since it is completely different problem than MB...
