Hi,

I hope this is the correct section to post on, and I hope it's not an issue posting questions that are not purely related to Corona. Highly knowledgeable people share their thoughts on this forum so I thought I'd ask my questions here.

For commercial purpose I've been creating a detailed 3d model of a urban area, that I used to render some images, and now my client comes back to me asking me if I'm willing to send them the 3d model. They say they will "use the model to send it to a scenographer who is mandated to create a model of the whole town".

I'm not sure how to approach this: for sure, I can send them the model and charge them for the time spent creating it, but I'm also wondering about copyright. Is there a way for me to be recognized as the person who created this model? Is there a specific form that my client needs to fill out to acknowledge that I am the author of the 3D model? Can I charge for these rights? If so, how much?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

The client never owns the model, unless agreed to beforehand.  So absolutely charge them for it.  How much?  How much is it worth to you?  Name your price.

In terms of copyright, have a chat with the client and explain that the model contains licensed assets that you're not in a position to share i.e. textures, 3d models that you've paid for.

Or draft up a small contract for them to sign saying something along the lines of "this model and the associated assets is only to be used by and licensed to the client and the sceneographer for reference purposes only and is strictly not to be used by any other 3D Artist to create additional imagery or passed on to any other 3rd parties not named in this agreement"

You can write whatever you want in the contract, whether the client adheres to it or not is a different issue, but if you want crediting then include it in the contract ..."where the sceneographers work is displayed publicly, it must be accompanied by the credit 'physical model inspired by the 3d visualistions of Tom' ....

The balls in your court on this one.
