Will set this to -1 or -2 while doing test renders in the background and inbetween renders it will intermittently go back to default 0, slowing everything down.
Have noticed this behaviour for a few builds now, it's not a major thing, just a bit annoying when everything slows right down and you have to check the settings inbetween every render.

Is this about the "regular" #threads or the IR #threads? (1st or 2nd checkbox counting from the top of the window?)
When you are doing the background rendering with #threads lowered, what exactly are you doing "in the foreground"? Are you running another instance of 3ds Max with Corona?

1st checkbox, regular threads, haven't noticed it with IR.
In the foreground, firefox, photoshop or illustrator, that type of thing - I rarely run more than 1 instance of max.

Hmm, I didn't manage to reproduce this.
How much time has to pass usually before the settings resets itself?
Could you share any scene where this happens with us? (see my signature)
System settings are stored in a conf file, so I can imagine this might happen if that conf file is updated/removed, but no idea why that might be happening.
