Hi all, since I updated to 1.7 hotfix 2 I'm getting a very unstable behaviour using IR. I usually preview my scene in a separate IR window and it all works well until I stop it. Once I do, it automatically crashes because of and Unexpected Max error. (scene is saved as a _Recover, and then it closes)

I'm using Max 2014 and Corona 1.7 hotfix 2. The scenes were developed with 1.7, then I updated to hotfix 1 and hotfix 2 while working, they contain some Hair and Fur, and are not too heavy (6-7 million poly), I have 32Gb RAM memory. This didn't happen on previous versions. Can anybody help me?

Thanks

Is this happening in any scene? (one teapot) Or only in scenes with hair and fur?
Can you send us a scene which is crashing for you?

I'm working and quite tight on time so couldn't do much testing on the problem, but I suspect it might be hair and fur related... A simple scene doesn't crash it. I'm uploading the full thing to dropbox, it's called "IR crash.zip"

Thanks for your help Maru.

I've noticed when my scene has a lot of objects/materials (approaching 1gb non compressed max file) the stopping of the IR takes a long time. Instead of stopping, I render instead. This allows me to cancel the render and not have to wait for the long time for max to return to usable.

I got the scene, but I cannot reproduce the crash - can you create a minidump?

It is crashing in mxsdotNet.dll - which is maxscript/dotnet library provided by 3ds max. DO you have some post-render scripts enabled perhaps?

I can confirm that this behaviour is not present in scenes without Hair and Fur... Any ideas?

Thanks for your help. :)

We have received a few similar reports, but no reliable solution so far.
In one case it was solved by installing a newer version of the Ornatrix plugin.
In most of the others the users just stopped responding, so they probably fixed it somehow or just gave up on 3ds Max hair and fur.
It seems that one common thing here is 3ds Max 2014, so one solution would be trying a different version if possible. (maybe trial license?)

Ok, I don't use Ornatrix so that's probably not the problem in this case. For now I've been avoiding either using H&F or IR together, and so far, so good... But right now I'm under a pile of work, so can't test with a different version. Will give it a try next month and see how it pays up... I'll keep an eye on the forums in case some other solution pops up.

Thanks for your help Maru. :)
