Hi,

From the error message it sounds like there is a discrepancy between the sent scene file and the one that is on the master.

I'd recommend to try removing all files inside the DR server folder - by default C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\CoronaRenderer\DrData

but displaced geometry still has strange shading on shallow angles with new displacement. I wonder if it's a limitation of 2.5D displacement, or maybe things can be improved here?

I would test this for bump map as well, I avoid using all these because they almost always made something go wrong in bump channel. Now we can (mostly?) fix that by plugging the final network into CoronaBumpConverter or how it's called.
But there isn't such for displacement.

In my brief tests this seems to work correctly for the bump map with both the new and old displacement. Do you have a specific situation where these maps cause issues?

Thank you for creating this detailed report, I've confirmed the issue which you are describing and I will discuss it with our development team.

BTW, in my tests it seems the new displacement gives different results depending on whether CoronaMix, Mix or Composite maps are used.. Is this the same for you?

Negative. The report you've linked, is about displacement only working in base layer of layered material. I'm talking about mapping channels. They are independant from materials. Let me know if you want more detailed report with examples and max scene.

One more test. New displacement @ 1px VS old @ 3px VS old @ 3px with disabled autobump. In my opinion, old displacement with enabled autobump, looks the best.

I recommend you to turn it off and try the Interactive Rendering again, hopefully it will be much better now. Please let us know if turning off this feature helps.

There was no difference.
IR behaves like on the video.

Just an update, I have rendered your scene with the upcoming daily build and I think the results are much better with pixel screen size set to 1.

Note, it's obvious that the displacement on the mirror is now different. However it looks more correct to me now.

Alright sorry I did a forum and google search and didn't get any similar results - but thanks, this makes it clear.

One more thing - before I post another duplicate - about the corona toolbar that is being reset on every max startup - is that still happening in max 2020 or it was limited only to 2018?

We are aware of some issues with artifacts and and memory consumption, these will be addressed in the upcoming dailies.

Hi,

In the v5 Daily builds starting from 2019-09-30 we are proud to release the new 2.5d displacement!

It is much more memory efficient than the original displacement, allowing much finer displacement (smaller screen/world size) while using less memory.
Enabled by default for new scenes, but disabled for older scenes for backwards compatibility.
It can be enabled by a new checkbox in performance tab of render settings.

The daily build is available to all license holders. Info and download:
