Why on Earth is the 3990x (64/128) priced at ~$6,000 in 2021? Are we basically just waiting for the 96-core Genoa chip before 3990x prices will drop? What about 5950x, or is it not sufficient to operate as a render node?

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Tonemapping - Plz Halp

Hey @Piotrus333 the Vray LUT you shared awhile back has really been helpful for me - thank you so much for sharing!

sure thing. you’re welcome. VRay Hable or ampas lut?

mP_Reinhard2VRayAMPAS and mP_Reinhard2VRayFilmic have both been great to work with.

Do you have mP_Reinhard2VRayAMPAS_desatHL2.3dl as a .cube - I guess it doesn't matter for Corona Renderer VFB(?)

I responded similarly on a different thread but basically, Forest Pack.

Corona Scatter and Ornatrix are good, but Forest Pack is just more comprehensive, can handle more bizarre edge cases, etc.

I say this as someone who has implemented the above example following the example project^ using the default hair-and-fur system (not recommended), and then spent probably a couple months exploring other options, including those listed above.

General CG Discussion / Film Grain
« on: 2021-11-30, 01:38:42 »
Trying to improve my approach to film grain (noise) in post to emulate photographic imaging, wondering if anyone has any tips? Also, looking for a premium film grain / noise PS action, or something similar, because I don't really want to spend too much time dialing-in film grain to get the right look, if it can be done in a more efficient manner.

Right now I'm using ArionFX HDR film grain - it's nice, but few options to adjust grain size, color, roughness, etc.

Chiming-in to add my support to this feature request; having depth of field for fisheye lens would be very compelling, albeit niche.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Depth of Field with Fisheye Camera?
« on: 2021-11-24, 10:56:40 »
Sadly this is not possible with Corona camera. There's request for this to be implemented, you may want to show your support in this tread: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=27883.0

The only workaround i can think of, would be to render z-depth pass and do DOF in post.

Ok, good to know - thank you Romullus. Yes, I will chime in to support the feature request, that would be nice to have for the fisheye lens.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Iridescent/Metallic glass shader
« on: 2021-11-24, 01:42:20 »
Use Siger thin film on a glass shader and then add roughness to the coat layer in the new Physical Material Shader, or create a layered material to add the dust / dirt.

For all intents and purposes the reference image shows, basically, a "dirty bubble" shader.

40
Title. Is this possible, or is there a workaround?

Please note that depends on what you mean by "do we have ACES" - what is shown is the color curve for ACES, nothing more (ie no changes to output formats etc.)

So we are seeing a kind of ACES emulation, then?

Work in Progress/Tests / Re: cjwidd render thread

Thanks @MrMarty, I did all the texturing / shading, just not the modeling - the smoke detector is especially well modeled, so credit to the artist.

The vignetting in the two vertical shots is really nice, is that post process or in-camera (bokeh)?

What is the trick to texturing so much wall surface with only one material type? Noise mask in layered material, or UVW Randomizer?

I really like the mood and tone of these images, but it looks like the glass coffee table is clipping through the carpet / rug in the last shot?
Also, is the parquet flooring a texture or geometry?
