Super good... nice work! Love the 'behind the scenes' concept, pushes the idea that they are studio photos (and not renders).

Oh to get my hands on such a high detail car model without forking out a fortune for it!

General CG Discussion / Re: Working remotely (reduce lag)
« on: 2019-05-31, 21:43:05 »
I found that RDC didn’t utilise the remote PCs graphics card at all (I think because it’s natively built into Windows, the OS knows that the GPU isn’t in use) - whereas Teamviewer seemed to still utilise all the hardware, provides you have a monitor or HDMI single attached.

Obviously Corona doesn’t need the GPU, but even for viewport speed I found it made a difference.

I've had this issue for the latest 2 builds, when i render using DR, the frame buffer Beauty pass will go black randomly after a few minutes, then if I cycle between the elements and back to beauty it will show up again, then go black after some minutes. When render ends it is randomly either saving or not saving the beauty (black layer) depending on if it shows or not at the time. In some cases the other elements also would have the alpha wrong as in a big blag square of the element missing or added. Anyone having same issue? could it be a memory leak when it receives data from the render nodes?

+1 exactly the same issue. Haven’t had any loss when saving out (to Cxr) but the black VFB during DR is identical. I agree that it happens with the DR machines send their data back to the workstation - I played with how many passes it takes between sending the data back and got less frequent black screen. Flicking back and forth to other elements gives the same behaviour too (returning VFB back to normal).

More little tests, this time as an offshoot of a recent commissioned project. Had to model/map these cider bottles for a different purpose (which I'll pop here at some point), so thought it was worth making a little test advertising piece too.

Nice work - the tree shadows and light are particularly nice!

This looks great - can't wait to give it a try!

yeah... try doing that way with a animation @ 30 frames / second. Your time to process all those frames is equal to the rendering itself. Not recommended

I’m not sure the original post has any mention of being used for animation - completely agree that this method wouldn’t suit animation. The original post mentions issues with Lightmix and Denoising, both of which I’ve found to be fine using the batch render plugin?

Couple of grey matte renders to accompany the above tests.

Or combine both approaches of course - bigger cloud features through geometry, with some additional variation added through the Inside Volume mode using maps :)

Spot on.

I often use a combination of various volumetrics - environmental fog for distance, geometry for ground fog or around lighting features - some with noise maps, some with Corona Distance maps to control, some all of the above. I'd suggest getting familiar with all of them methods and then you've got all the tools available to you!

It depends how accurate you need it to be - a simple option would be put your scene inside a cylinder (with no top or bottom) and map a gradient into the onto the Opacity so it fades up into the sky.

If you wanted it to be more accurate you could do the donut/ring with Corona Fog material assigned, or in the Global Volume (https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035577-how-to-use-volumetrics-) - and then play with the various options in there.

General CG Discussion / Re: Cloud or NAS storage
« on: 2019-04-15, 11:00:17 »
I think you need to expand your question more - most people probably use a combination of local and cloud storage, but for different things!

If you're talking about using it as your main data storage, it probably depends on your situation:-

 - Who needs to access the files, and where are they (in the same room? in a different country...?)
 - What's your internet speed like?
 - What's your office/home network speed like - is it wired or wireless or both?
 - How will capacity needs affect cost (e.g. NAS you can put another drive into, Cloud you can pay for more storage...)?

Personally, I wouldn't use Cloud storage for assets that I need to access regularly (textures, model library etc) due to internet speeds here. Also if you have multiple workstations or render nodes and they are all accessing something over the internet then bandwidth will be impacted and everything will slow down.

I use the batch render script that you originally mention, and haven’t had any issues using with Corona (including Lightmix, Denoising etc) - if you render our to CXR you can tweak everything later in Corona Image Editor (in Max or independently).

I recently used it for a project with 16 panoramics and it worked a treat!

With possibility to load multiple HDRIs and suns into LightMix and caustics, both coming soon, you will probably have to face a new wave of frustration and rewarding experience. :D

Sounds amazing!
