Very nice set of pics. Congrats!

On the critic side, there's a bit of noise left, the wooden cupboard textures seem to be lo-res, the handles on the cupboard look odd, and some metals have a strange bump.

The rest of it is superb! Nice color grading too!

Sorry... I kind of solved it myself. Max was set to always run as admin on the node. Unticked it and now it seems to be working fine.

Thanks anyway! :)

Hi there,

A couple of days ago I updated Corona to 1.4 (from 1.3) and everything looked brilliant. Today I tried to fire up a distributed render and I'm getting some miscommunication between workstation and node... Last time I checked there were no problems launching 3dsmax 2014 on the node, but I'm getting some 3dsmaxcmd (i guess) errors after the update.

Can anybody take a look at this please? Here are the logs.

Thanks!

Collapsed stack + optional Turbosmooth (only if required, and turned OFF) seems to be pretty common. I understand you want to provide flexibility Ben, but if there's no backwards compatibility with older Max versions... that's a quite inflexible limit :)

Thx

Thanks!

I got the Nelson bench but unfortunately i can only use the OBJ, cause the Max file is for 2016. Any chance you could upload a version compatible with older Maxes? (2014 would be fine for me)

Thanks anyway! ;)

Congrats on your work. Human characters are probably the toughest thing.. I've tried it many times and it's an enormous task that seems like never ends. I'd say you're halfway across the Uncanny Valley still, but nevertheless it's a great work and you've shared some interesting tips and findings. Thanks!

The scene looks promising, but as others stated before you should work on your materials a bit further. Adding variations and imperfections, and most notably reflection will help it improve a lot. Start tweaking the reflections and then you could give AO a try, there are other methods to simulate imperfections (multimap, layered materials...) It's tedious but it'll help a lot. Also... get rid of the fog for now.

Also. get rid of any environment map, create a CoronaSun and click Add Corona Sky... That should give you a basic and pretty realistic setup to start with.

Hope it helps!

Some updates regarding lighting, materials, vegetation and environment. Still not sure which way to take tonemapping, I've been testing a few different things...

Hope you like it, any comments are welcome!

Looks interesting but i don't really see the way to implement it... Could you elaborate please?

About rendering super high res pictures and ram - you could try rendering strips: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-0A49D59A-313C-438F-9698-71C1263AD432-htm.html

Maru, does Corona support that? I've run into some RAM problems before rendering 8000x4000 images. That would be really helpful.

Im away until tomorrow, but i'll try your tips on DOF as soon as i can. Adding another digit should help with more subtle dof, right now i find it quite agressive. I hope the EXR gamma issues get fixed too. Perhaps you should open your own thread to get feedback, so we don't hijack Juraj's? :D

Will give it a try this evening. I really needed this, thanks for posting! :D

Got the same problem again. I managed to create a mini dump and just submited it.

Hope it helps, thx

I wrote to him this morning regarding something else and he replied quickly. Let's hope he's reading around here and taking notes.. ;)

At 19€ i bet he's going to get a good user-base with such a good product!

I'll pray to the CoronaGods tonight so they hear your words of wisdom ;)

I hate Reinhard too, but it's the only thing I've been able to get decent results with in ArionFX (Global Reinhard 02). The easy peasy Filmic in VFB+ is way better!

I tend to use large DOF in my renders because of my clients, they always want everything sharp (i think we talked about it on your facebook long ago). That's when the halos show up, i can't barely go past 0,01 or 0,02 (and can't dial 0,015!)  for shallow DOF it works fine, and it's quite fast
