[C4D] I need help! / Re: Art on soda can material question
« on: 2022-12-08, 11:48:55 »
If you want to make it in a single material you ll need to make a mask to put in the metalness slot (less metal in the type area by making it grey). Indeed, stacking or using layered material will give more control.

Legacy material or Physical material?

Are you stacking materials. using layered material or trying to do it in a single material?

The route depends on the method. But basically the painted metal areas should be just a bit metallic. You can achieve this by reducing the amount on the metalness slider in Physical or tweaking the IOR in Legacy (in which case you'd also need some of the label color in the reflection colour channel)

I cant help but notice that the Corona Devs have always been open and halpful. But the Chaos Licencing department is prone to mistakes and seems pretty user-unfriendly.

Please take note Corona team. The goodwill and evangelising userbase that Corona has built up is quickly eroded by this sort of thing.

Hmmm, I had a quick look - but didn't notice anything obviously wrong with the set-up. And yes, it does render rather slowly! Sorry I can't be more useful

Please send the scenefile otherwise it's impossible to tell anything oubout this.

Shadowcatcher is generally used for images using backplates AFAIK. In your case I'd expect you to use a solid colour in the Direct Visibility override slot and to add the same colour into the Environment slot of the shadowcatcher material.

If you have a real floor/cove in the scene etc then I'm not sure it will work properly or of that is the purpose of the shadowchatcher.

I'm happy to be informed otherwise tho'

I can also highly recommend Bentanji.com - their models are all available as c4d/corona as well as 3dsm/vray

While I agree that the constant checking is totally user-unfriendly and a massive pain in the ass. I seem to remember that there was a way of having (borrowing?) an offline licence?
Perhaps one of the Corona staff could refresh my memory as it may have changed in the latest licencing update...?

I didnt expect it to go sour this quickly after Chaos takeover

Reminders, fwiw - it's been 7 years since we merged. It was a merger, not a takeover. Price changes would be happening whether or not the merger had taken place. Just to keep the record straight :)

Nobody expects the price to stay the same Tom. I guess people are wary of some of the Chaos changes as they can be rather  chaotic. The communication wasn't done well and had errors.

I like Corona a lot but ... Chaos seem to have raised the price in a pretty ham-fisted manner. I got the attached email today - which I assume contains a mistake. Unless it really is €418 per Month now :)

More seriously, is that I'm not sure why I wasn't consulted before being put on the 'Premium' tier. (There are now 2 tiers apparently, with 'Solo' being the base level. Although this wasnt mentioned on the email.) I dont think I have much use for Chaos Phoenix, player etc. And there isnt any mention of render nodes on the comparison so I'm not sure what the real advantage is.

Anyone from Chaos able to expand a little on this?

The number of computers specified in each product package has not changed, and the number of licenses you're entitled to hasn't changed.
Are you sure about that? If I remember correctly, the additional render nodes where cut from 3 to 1 some time ago.

That is for new licences i believe. Existing customers (currently) get the keep the extra nodes.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: still struggeling with tonemapping

"Shouldn't standard settings in tonemapping panel result in a good picture? Are all these nice pics on the internet done in post?"

Exposure is a thing. Your brain does it so well that you barely register it happening - but your eyes are constantly changing apeture to be able to see in different lighting situations.

Corona cannot guess how bright your lights are. You will always need to edjust either camera exposure or light brightness to get the best result. I wouldn't count this as 'post'.

If you show how you are setting up your lighting (HDRI? Sun/Sky?) then maybe we could help.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: Corona Render Test M1 and M1 Max
« on: 2022-10-05, 09:08:10 »
I'm very intersted in this as I will be buying/using a M2 MBP when they come out. But for clarity - as we assuming there is a fix needed at the Corona end. Or is there a issue at the Apple end?

Are any of the testers on this thread also using a comparable CPU engine that they could also check? Is there also a dropoff using the new Redshift CPU mode for example? Or Vray CPU? (I think these are silicon enabled now?)

Is there any progress on this? I would like to use gobos much more regularly, but the c4d light option is too much of a kludge.

As I understand it, it stops at the quickest reached target if there are multiple targets set. Ie if it reaches less that 5% noise at 22 passes, it would stop then, not at 25.
