Just a thought. But if I were doing it, I think I would have used the Direct Visibility Override in Corona's Scene Settings rather than try and use a physical plane.

I found your file a bit confusing so didn't check you're setup properly.

[C4D] General Discussion / R21 Corona compatibility
« on: 2019-08-09, 12:35:37 »
Hi - is it known yet if Corona will work with the new R21 release of C4D?
There was talk of plugins needing to be re-written. Is corona one of them - and if so is there a timeline for a compatible release?
Thanks
R

Ah - of course. Thanks!

In Cinema's native displacement dialogue, it's possible to use intensity (black not effected), or intensity centred (mid point grey not effected) for displacement maps.

Intensity centred is very useful for adding debossed and embossed effects to the same surface without altering the 'ground level of the main surface.

Is it possible to achieve the same effect in Corona's displacement setting?

Hmmm, I suppose that's probable.
I seem to have some distant memory or c4d stacking working OK like this. Maybe I was mistaken.

Actually i think this may be a bug.

I tried a test file with the displacement method using a poliigon shader:

With 2 surfaces - one with the can material and one with the condensation - it sort of works. But if you stack the condensation material on top of the can material on one surface, it turns black.

Adding caustics makes it darker too. Turning refraction value to 1 doesn't help either.

can you attach the scene file? Then it would be easier to see where the problem lies. using a displacement map should work if it's set up correctly

If you look up www.poliigon.com  they have guides telling you where to put each map for various different renderers.

FYI. The node EDITOR in corona is just another way of building the standard shaders - it doesn't build special nodal materials.

From the C4d picture viewer you can select psd/tiff or whatever, then tick the 'layers' tick box. That should do it.

Aha - i've reduced the displacement screen size from 3px to 1 and that does help a lot actually. Thanks for the info!

I have the same problem in a new file so - I'm resurrecting this thread.
I've tried testing on different surfaces and with different resolutions and profiles, but without any luck. Pretty crappy jagged displacement on all tests.
Am i missing something? or is this a bug?
Screengrab and test file attached.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on it.

(oh, Daily Build april 15. c4d r20, mac)

Set to blending to 'subtract' in PS.

Nice - really calm tones.
+1 on the pendant cables. Splines don't have enough points. And the very nice purple glass vase has plants which are floating in mid-air.

I know what you mean about the edges of the masks (alphas) not being as clean as I'm used to. I think the Anti-aliased edges are sacrificed a bit in the balance to get clean-ish renders fast.
If you're not using a super complicated scene, I sometimes render a native C4D standard or physical pass with no lights or GI afterwards. The masks are super-sharp and the render only takes a couple of seconds.

As an update, this seems to be a problem when it's applied to certain geometry. On a flat parametric plane the material displaces fine. But on the object I want to use, the displacement is jagged. Mmmm
