[Max] General Discussion / Re: rendering large images
« on: 2019-06-10, 16:58:58 »
I did know about the dpi/ppi not relating but the 17 meter size was so massive its the only way I could try to come up with a render size, It looks like I was going to overkill it though so im glad I asked! I will stick to a 8k render and use gigapixel to upscale.

Thanks again everyone!

Thanks for the replies.

They want the image at A2 print but potentially might use is up to 17 meters which is a bit of a leap, I'm assuming at that size it will be at a distance as they have just said it would need to be 32 dpi. The job come through an agency so I unfortunately don't have any more info, I'm just trying to work out if its even possible for me to do.

I had planned to do it in sections but wondered if there was any scripts/ programs that could help automate the process?

I will check out gigapixel though, that could be really helpful!

The links are great maru especially the distance to dpi chart. maybe I could get away with 12 dpi and upscaling.

Hi!

I'm quoting for a job and potentially they want the image on a 17 meter billboard...I have never done large scale renders before and wondered if anyone had any experience/tips on doing it? Its an outdoor aerial image so at least its not anything internal.

I'm also assuming its going to be killer on ram so I will need to upgrade from 64gb to 128gb?

I know that you can use blow up area to render to split in into quarters but I think the final resolution would need to be 240945 pixels at 36 dpi (if i calculated it correctly) is that even possible in Max/Corona? I tried a test with some boxes and it was struggling with 10,000 pixels.

Thanks and any help is really appreciated!

wow I'm not a fan of that case and why would anyone need 1.5tb of ram??

"eight-core Xeon CPU, 32GB of memory, a 256GB SSD and the Radeon Pro 580X graphics card and will start at $5,999" My 2990wx, 1080ti, 64gb ram build cost less than that, its crazy what people will pay just for a brand and OS.

I do love going through the comments section though ;) so much passion from both sides lol.

Hardware / Re: Cpu fans ramping up when denoising
« on: 2019-05-08, 11:41:52 »
Thanks SairesArt,

I just did a test and went down to 250w with the fans full speed and it seems to be correct what said about the denoising being more CPU intensive.

While rendering temps sit at 55 degrees but when I stop the render and the denoising starts it jumps up to 64. The temp spike seems strange though because task manager/ryzen master says CPU utilization is at 100% during all stages of rendering. I guess when I was getting to the denoise before it was going over the temp limit in Ryzen master and just kicking up all the fans to 100% to protect itself.

I will try out the fan curves in the control centre and lower the PPT wattage to take into account the temp spike that happens.

Thanks again! that helped a lot :)

Hardware / Cpu fans ramping up when denoising
« on: 2019-05-08, 10:40:28 »
I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with a fan issue I'm having. Whenever I stop a render and it starts denoising the CPU fans kicks up for about 3 seconds, the same happens when in interactive rendering. I have 2 fans on it CPU cooler both running at 50% speed, which is pretty quite but when this occurs they both ramp up to 100%.

I have been trying to tweak bios settings etc ( latest bios 7B92v13 ) but I can seem to get it to stop. Normally it wouldn't bother me but I share a work space so its not ideal having a jet take off in the room every 10 Min's :)

I have a 2990wx, msi x399 meg creation,Thermalright silverarrow tr4. Sits at around 3.2ghz/ 60 degrees on an overnight render maxing out the PPT limit of 265w. Just wanted to check there is not some setting that anyone knows of in the Bios? or if its just a case of dropping the PPT limit?

Thanks!

I have just finished a new project R.G.B that I have been doing in my spare time.

The idea behind this project is that all Computer generated art has to start off using Red, Green or blue pixels so I created 3 room's using the colour pallette of each colour.

Theres a bit of a WIP in the forums,

Hope you like it and thanks for having a look!

Thanks pokoy! Hopefully they can manage the co2!

All the room are connected through the doors as well so there will be a few more shots looking through so you will see all the colours together.

Finished off all the rooms now, below is the Red room clay renders. Everything is textured and rendered now so I will just do a bit of post and maybe render out a few more shots of all the rooms together.

Ah ok thats a shame, theres no way im paying that much if it doesnt cover the entire CPU. The sound is almost silent now so it should be fine with office relations, It's actually the motherboard that seems to be the noisy part now.

Maybe once TR3 comes out there will be a better AIO solution.
