I was using render4you a while back. They actually had the option to tile render stuff (multiple cameras) but of course it didn't work with clipping and such stuff. Was a pleasant experience!

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: Render region, one click bug

Sorry for taking five years to respond to you... Was quite busy :)

So it seems I can't reproduce it anymore. I used (before A 6.3) to but not anymore and I have no idea what changed.

Thanks though!

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Installer lacks EULA checkbox

Perhaps you need to scroll down the EULA until you reach the end of it. Sometimes thats how you assure the program you've read it. :)

Uh, reviving an old topic here.

Juraj, based on your image, are all the PCI-E slots fully usable with modern GPUs? That right heatsink seems to be hanging a little low there :)

Erm, it got streamlined :) Personally, I really like it the way it is now, kudos to the devs!

Well personally I like the expandability such a system offers + the direct lighting scenarios clean up unbelievably fast :) The price $ ratio seems great too though although now that AMD is back in the CPU game things are changing on that front as well. FUN TIMES!

And did you try F-Storm ? :- )

*goes into hiding....

(ps: I didn't for example)

Oh no you didn't! :)

@BorderLine Well I for one am happy you've found a tool that works for you. I myself have a somewhat limited experience with GPU renderers but I definitely see the appeal. As a matter of fact I am a little surprised you didn't find that 6x configuration do miracles for you... That is some serious horsepower right there that should be doing "miracles". :)

I've recently started adding fine-bump to almost every material, and on flat bright walls, it looks like it confuses the adaptivity which isn't sampling them and I have to manually region it out. Will do some tests with sampling focus, never used that pass.

Funny, that is actually how I think I get 10+ hour renders in V-Ray as well. I haven't tested it so I might be speaking from my arse but adding subtle bump + low reflection intensity to bright white walls (rgb 180) makes everything slooooooooooow.

Hm... Maybe I should do some testing but hey, maybe we are onto something here :)

Maybe its just me thats a little confused but... You are saying you digg Corona or have you found Octane to better suit your needs (depending on your rig I'd say thats the case)? Sorry, I'm just profoundly confused :)

Hardware / Re: Xeon E5-2630 v4 workstation advice
« on: 2017-03-22, 10:13:03 »
By the looks of it even the Ryzen 1700x would be a better buy for you performance wise let alone budget wise as its CB score is higher than that of a single 2630 v4.

I'm totally with Juraj and Freakaz on this one. Unless you plan on doing some crazy GPU builds with nvme drives and what nots I'd just go with Ryzen. The basic 1700 is actually a hair faster than the 2630 v4 for like 50% less. Granted, the 2630 v4 would give you extra PCI-E lanes (can be a rare commodity these days) and the ability to have dual CPUs running  but the CPU rendering performance looks to be the same..

If that is the case, then you need to go for a dual socketed motherboard and then you can double your rendering speed by buying another 2630 v4. That said, Ryzen will have better single threaded performance still - if that is important to you.

Ultimately, if you are very budget concious, I'd really think about the 1700x-1800x from AMD. Do think about expandability though as currently Ryzen motherboards seem to take up to 3 GPUs (that last one is on PCIE 2.0 x4 I think) and 1-2 nvmes. I'd say for most rendering workstations that isn't a problem but just wanted you to think about it :)

Thanks for the feedback!

Your photo Juraj was pretty much what I was looking at for reference :)

You can tile directly in the material tag.

While that works it actually tiles all of the bitmaps at the same time. I think what Victor Liu is talking about is to have the ability to control each individual bitmap you use in your material (i.e you want different sized diffuse map and reflection maps...) :)

The AMD Ryzen platform is interesting, but if aiming for that, I'd wait a bit. It's so new, the motherboards have mostly wonky bios, and the results I see aren't consistent.
Otherwise, note that it tops out at 64Gb ram, and 2 gpus. If that is enough, it's very nice price/performance across the board.
...

Where there any tests done that tried hooking up 2+ GPUs already? That last PCH slot would be capable of running an x4 three way splitter for extra GPUs just from the sheer looks of it...?

Sorry for the super later response!

Yeah I remember asking a similar question way back but that was a little more specific - whether the Noctua 15s can be mounted on a supermicro board.

NH-D15, as far as I can tell, can't be fitted. UH-14 is also too big (by the looks of it) so the "top end" solution from Noctua would apparently be the UH-14S.

Don't get me wrong, I know these CPUs are fine with smaller coolers but just for the sake of it ... and because I could fit it into the budget ... I am looking at the best option. Watercooling is out of the question - I am too afraid of leaks :)

And, I cannot image the next Naples CPU (32 cores and 64 threads)
