[C4D] I need help! / Re: Weird Shadow artifact

I always put STP files through Moi3D to get more predictable meshes.

Thanks for all the tips! I was able to use Moi3D and exported a solid clean mesh!

Sorry, can't help you with that, i'm a 3ds Max user. Max can open and render CAD objects without issues.

Maybe try to see if it's possible to retain vertex normals in the software where you are doing conversion and make sure that C4D does not override them in the process of model import.

Understandable! Thank your for the information

That's messed up vertex normals. Most likely happened when you converted model to obj. If it's possible, try to render the model without converting it to polygons - you should get much better result.

Thanks! Im not sure how to open an .step file in C4D without converting it to polygons.. hmmm

I am getting these weird shadow artifacts on a 3D model I converted from step to obj. The model is kind of messy as you can see on the right side of the image but the actual surface is smooth.
The ugly shadows only appears when there are small lights casting a sharp shadow. They do not appear when using a corona sky for example.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Still same.

But machines & IR are faster :)

Gotcha. Hopefully we can get something more efficent in the future

[C4D] I need help! / Textures in viewport
« on: 2021-12-26, 14:07:44 »
Hello, I am currently trying to add a bump map to my model but I can't figure out how to show the bump map texture in viewport. I found an old post here where they said that the only workaround was to add the bump map to diffuse/texture slot to make it appear in viewport. This was from 2017 and Im wondering if there is a new/better method now 5 years later?

Appreciate any sort of help/tips
Thanks

As my colleague has mentioned, please check the detail level for IR. Also, it might also be that ''Fast preview denoise during render'' is enabled and there simply hasn't been enough passes to gather details.

Thanks! The detail level did the trick. Need to figure out how to increase the detail level on the interactive renderer too hmm.

Did you set the Viewport IR detail level to 100%? (On windows, there's a cogwheel button next to it in Corona Menu, on Mac it has a bit different icon)

Thanks,
Jan

Thanks alot, it worked! Is there a way to fix the same issue on the Interactive renderer? (not viewport)

[C4D] I need help! / Bad texture resolution from far away
« on: 2021-12-21, 11:43:09 »
Might be a beginner question, but the resolution of my textures gets really bad from far away in the interactive viewport. Is there a setting to disable this behavior?
For example, this is an 8k texture not zoomed in: https://gyazo.com/6d0ab209a4ccb3d2264507a90538e0bd

Appreciate all the help.

[Max] I need help! / Alpha V6 for 3DSMax
« on: 2017-07-22, 21:34:16 »
Hello, does the Alpha V6 version work for 3DSMax 2018? If so, how do I install it?
I missed most of my demo time so I will have to try the Alpha V6 instead.

Thanks in advance

[C4D] General Discussion / invincible plane with shadows
« on: 2017-06-18, 01:10:08 »
How in the hell do I make a plane that only catches shadows? I know there is a material in 3DSmax called Shadowcatcher but how do I do the same in Cinema4D?

Thanks
