Hardware / Cooling down the i9-14900K
« on: 2024-01-04, 10:13:43 »
Hi,

I'm looking for some new workstation build mostly for daily work on a 3d scenes and I thought about the 14900k as it should be pretty snappy. However I wonder on choosing right cooler as there are not many decent reviews when it's running like few days on full load - I'll be doing some long renderings on that also. Does anyone of you have some experience with cooling this cpu?

Hi,

I have problem with displacement of the carpet that's visible in the mirror.
There's some kind of dark/light area line.
I saw the topic where similar problem occured in the Cinema 4D and changing to world space solved it. However it doesn't work on my side. It only changes how the problem is visible.

Is there anything I can do about it? I think it's quite common to see displaced areas in the reflection..

Hi,

I've recently came across with some weird problem with shadowcatcher.
I have a studio scene with plane + few lights and while rendering in the alpha channel there's visible line on a certain height. Unfortunately it's also visible in the beauty pass in shadow area. I can't figure out what's the cause of it.
I tried to:
- change GI settings to different variations
- turn on/off adaptive light solver/lock sampling pattern/displacement/occlude other lights (in all lights)

There's no hdri light in the scene, only planes.
Right now I'm using recent daily build version but I tried that with some previous builds (stable ones) and it's the same.

Edit: Uh.. just after I wrote this topic I found what the problem was. It was one of the lights in the scene. It was single sided and that line was border of the light. The solution was to tick the "Emit on both sides" option.. So just in case someone will face similar problem that's the way to fix that.

Gallery / Layers of White
« on: 2020-01-29, 15:10:28 »
Hi guys,

I didn't post anything for sometime so here's new project.
This time it's personal one made on the basis of the Layers of White - Pitsou Kedem Architect project and photos of Amit Geron.

Renderings made after hours, I started it almost a year ago and recently managed to finish it.

You can also see it on my website and behance.:

Hi guys,

I had some problem with my second workstation. As it occured the motherboard is broken. Current setup looks like this:
CPU - i7-5820k
MBU - ASRock X99 Extreme 4
RAM - DDR4 2133Mhz 4x8gb
GPU - GeForce GTX760
PSU - be quiet! 730W Pure Power L8
Cooling - be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3

Because motherboards with sockets 2011-3 are quite expensive and I'm considering selling the CPU and buying some AMD setup (CPU + motherboard). Something budget like 250-300€ for it. However I'm completely out of the topic now in terms of hardware. Could you help me out with choosing something decent?

After a little research I'm thinking of these CPUs:
Ryzen 5 3600
Ryzen 5 3600X
Ryzen 7 2700X
But I don't know what AM4 motherboard could be a good fit...

Gallery / Book of Colour
« on: 2019-02-04, 13:25:31 »
Hi!

I haven't published new project for a while :).

Earlier in 2018, together with Profim, Didudam and We Design we have been working on renderings for a catalogue called "Book of Colour".
It was designed as a part of marketing materials for a tradeshow ORGATEC.
There was aa concept where the catalogue have to be matched to the tradeshow stand which was divided into five different colour sections presenting new furniture. The catalogue is basicly all matte black with the five monochromatic sections inside.
My job of course was to make renderings for the catalogue. It was great fun to work on this project :).

Whole project was made with 3ds max and Corona 3.
Of course if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer :).

Hi!
I didn't post any new project for a while. This one is an interior/product project from last year. It was made to show different ways of use of the product - built-in wardrobes.

Soft: 3dsmax, corona, photoshop
Models are mainly 3dsky, some bbb3viz and main own. Most of them have reworked shaders.

More renders (close ups) of the project here:

Hi guys,

From some time I'm getting some problems with distributed/network rendering on Corona.
On both machines I'm using the same versions of 3ds max 2017.2 and Corona 1.7. So what happening.

Corona DR:
When I'm using Corona DR at the beginning everything is going well. Scene is being send, loaded, parsed etc. and the rendering is starting. After few minutes of rendering I'm getting an error: "3ds Max application has stopped working" and everything shut downs. This happens on every scene. I tried heavy scenes with a lot of displacement, scatter etc. and some simple with just Sphere and HDRI loaded. All the same.
LOGS:
a) Corona Log doesn't give any error. Last line is like: "2017-11-19 12:59:14  Rendering pass 4"
b) Max Log doesn't give any error either. Last line: "2017/11/19 12:59:11 INF: [12644] [12648] CORONA : Rendering pass 3"
c) DR Log. Here everything also looks normal with one exception. Last line: "2017-11-19 12:59:44   Closing loopback manager" - but it came out after I closed an error

Backburner:
When I'm using Backburner it's basicly the same as above. Everything is going fine for around 5-10 minutes and then I get application error.
LOGS:
a) Backburner Server
    INF Application is down
    INF Adapter returned unexpected code - 2 for "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\maxadapter.adp.exe" "-o" "ShutDown" "-l" "Info"
    ERR Unknown Error

I've searched through internet for solution I get nothing :/ There was something about changing user in Services.msc, but I don't have any Backburner or DR service there.

Maybe someone had similar problem and have solution?

Hi guys,
I've got problem with LightMix. There's a lot of noise in LightMix Pass when Beauty Pass is almost clean it the same time. When I tried to burn LightMix settings into the scene it's not looking exactly the same as before. There's a difference in HDRI lighting which I used as a main source of light. When I set HDRI intensitivity 3.0 in lightmix which value should be multiplied by 3 to get the same result? I tried RGB Level and Output Level but it looks different.
Is there any solution to that?

[Max] I need help! / Steam on the mirror
« on: 2017-04-21, 15:36:21 »
Hi guys,

I'd like to make steamed mirror in the bathroom. I'm having trouble how the construction of shader should look like.. Only glossiness map in mirror shader or some layered material?

Here are some examples of what I'm trying to achieve (maybe without that heart :)):

Gallery / Profim Orgatec 2016 Catalogue
« on: 2016-12-22, 10:32:45 »
Hi guys,

Few months ago I had opportunity to work on a catalogue which was created for Orgatec trade show.

We had a lot of freedom from client side. Together with We Design (they designed the catalogue) we were working on that industrial interior design.
I must say that it was pretty fun to work but a bit exhaustic at the end.

Whole job was made with 3ds max and Corona 1.5 daily builds.
If you have any question I'll be happy to answer :)

Hi.

Have anyone from the forum used Nvidia SLI cards just for viewports? Does it provide any additional performance?

I've got one additional GeForce (the same as in the workstation) and I'm just wondering if it'll speed up viewports.
