[Max] I need help! / incorrect alpha with opacity
« on: 2023-03-08, 11:17:07 »
Hello,

I'm having a bit of a problem. When I render a glass material with 0.5 opacity value the alpha channel is not the same when saved to a PNG. It's much less visible. Doing the reflections in post is a pain in the a** because of the bloom&glare that's in the image.

Example:

How can I fix this?

[Max] General Discussion / Listen to users
« on: 2020-07-12, 20:30:33 »
My biggest feature request atm is that the corona dev team listens to their user's requests. There are so many great feature requests on the forum but almost none of them are incorporated in the Corona engine. I think that's really weird because the users are the reason corona can exist. It also gives me the feeling that the dev team is not taking their costumer's requests seriously.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the updates and Corona is a fine render engine with good features, but for me personally, a render speed upgrade is far less important than good usability upgrades and new features to make my work go faster. I'd rather wait a while longer for my render to finish than having to do workarounds because the UI could be improved or handy simple features could be added.

[Max] I need help! / Remove corona light strength indicator
« on: 2020-05-26, 10:21:40 »
Hi,

I've made a scene that is set to meters but my subject is pretty small (my bad when setting up the scene), so the corona lights have very large intensity indicators (the yellow lines that come from the lights) and I have multiple lights setup close to each other which makes it very confusing to select the right light. Is it possible to remove or makes smaller those intensity indicators?

[Max] I need help! / Set lights to effect reflection ONLY
« on: 2020-05-18, 15:27:44 »
Hello,

Is it possible to set a corona light to affect the reflection on an object only?

So it is possible to remove the reflection of a light and keep the diffuse but is it also possible to do it the other way around?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / shadowcatcher not working right
« on: 2019-12-10, 11:40:11 »
Hello,

I have an issue with the shadow catcher material. In the screenshot below you see my scene, in there I have a flat box with a lot of lights shining on it (there are suppose to be other things on the box but I can't show that), some of the objects are Included in some lights and others are excluded in other lights. In ALL lights have the bottom plane is excluded except for the light blue plane you see. This light is creating the blue glow, which I expect to see in my alpha channel. But now I get all kinds of shadows and artefacts in the alpha channel. There is also a rectangle showing up in the alpha channel somehow.

Below the first image you can see the alpha channel when I hide all the lights except for the blue plane, this is how I expected it to look because the blue light is the only light that should be affecting the shadow catcher plane.

Is this correct behavior? The obvious fix is to render 2 images but I prefer not having to do that. Btw I'm on corona 4 so upgrading might help but I prefer not to do that just yet.

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Engraved plexiglass
« on: 2019-12-03, 15:03:57 »
Hello,

I've been struggling with this for a while now and can't find a solution. I don't even know if it's possible with the corona render engine, but I hope you guys can help out.

I'm looking for a material that can do this effect:

I need the light, that's emitted from the bottom, to hit the engraving on the front side and also make the rough sides glow. I've done a lot of tests but I can't seem to get this effect. How do I make a bump map interact with the light rays that are going through the glass material? And also make the edges emit light. I could of course, give the faces that need to emit light a light material but that does often nog give the right effect in terms of glow effect and colour mixture. So I would like to simulate how this behaves in the real world, but is this possible? And how?

[Max] I need help! / Saving for 10bit HDR format
« on: 2019-09-13, 11:23:58 »
Hello,

I'm rendering some content to sell as stock footage and I want to export to a 10bit HDR video format. I'm wondering what the best format is to save the separate images to from 3ds max. Of course I could just use the EXR 32bit format with no compression but that saves huge files and because I'm rendering 8K footage that will take a lot of disk space. So what is the best format to do this in and what do you guys recommend as the minimum setting for this?

Any advice is welcome, I'm quite new to the HDR video thing. :)

Thanks.

General CG Discussion / gorilla cam 3ds max alternative
« on: 2019-06-29, 10:06:21 »
Hello,

I just stumbled upon this very nice plugin for C4D but I'm a 3ds max user: https://greyscalegorilla.com/downloads/gorillacam/

Does anyone know if there is a 3ds max equivalent?

Thanks :)

[Max] Feature Requests / Texture visible on Corona light
« on: 2019-06-13, 15:56:28 »
Hello,

I would like to have the possibility to view the attached texture on a corona light. I do a lot of product visualisation and place corona lights with gradients all over the place. The thing is, that it's often hard to see how the Gradient is mapped on the light. To see it I have to make the light visible to the camera, turn off the camera lock, point the viewport to the light and lower the brightness. I would help me a lot if the texture was just visible in the viewport, that stops the guesswork on the reflection on objects.

Thanks :)

Hello,

I'm having this issue for a while now and I think it's a bug. In the image in the attachments, you see a Corona light with a standard gradient applied to it. In front of it you see a 100% reflective cube, in both of these objects there is a white line visible on the edge of the Corona light. This should not be there as that is the black part of the gradient. I often use Corona lights with a gradient to light my product shots so whenever this effect is visible I have to remove it in post, which I'd rather not do.

Is there a workaround for this or can these be fixed?

Thanks.

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Bump setting moved up
« on: 2019-06-05, 09:26:22 »
Hello,

The value setting for Bump mapping is all the way down to the bottom, while this is one of the settings I changed the most. It's really annoying having to scroll down while, for the most time, I only work with the top settings. Can there also be a setting for Bump mapping at the top of the materials settings?

Thanks. :)

[Max] Feature Requests / Curves settings per camera
« on: 2019-05-28, 14:18:13 »
Hello,

This is actually a simple one. Can there be "Curves override" button on the Corona Camera? so that you can set curves settings per camera and not have to manually load different config files in the camera's when rendering. This especially useful when working with Scene States and tight deadlines.

Thanks. :)

Best,
Joep

[Max] I need help! / Curves override
« on: 2019-05-06, 15:47:58 »
Hello,

I want to set the curves for colour correction per camera, so override the settings in the VFB just like you can do with Bloom&Glare. I can't find the setting to do this, is this even possible? As far as I can see the Curve editor is only accessible via the VFB.

Thanks

[Scatter] I need help! / Mapping Corona scatter
« on: 2019-05-03, 14:17:19 »
Hello,

I need help with corona scatter but I don't know if it's even possible. For a scene, I need cubes to be scattered over a plane but the UVW mapping should be applied over the entire scattered area instead of the cube itself that is being scattered. It is about a gradient that needs to go from one colour to another, from left to right, over the entire surface. What happens now is that I apply a UVW map on the cube that's being scattered and so I end up with thousands of cubes having a gradient on them but it starts and ends on the same cube.

Is it possible to assign a UVW map controller to the entire surface of the corona scatter area?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / How to process reflection + shadow
« on: 2019-03-29, 09:30:38 »
Hello,

I've been trying to get this for a while but can't figure it out. How can I save a png files where the shadow and reflections are transparent. Keyshot has this feature build in and you can directly save PNG's with transparent shadows and reflections. I tried to use the reflection and shadow pass for this in Photoshop but that gave me weird results. How do I use these correctly? Is there maybe a tutorial on that?

Best,
Joep
