I'm glad my answer helped you. What does "lag is so bad that it defeats the original purpose of representation" mean? I think the proxy mechanism is to make the view operation smoother, the scene loads faster, and the render loads faster. This is what I see from the Vray proxy mechanism;

As far as I know Corona has not been the best at loading agents. They tried to fix this in Corona V7, but it wasn't universally effective, and I mentioned in the forums that the different proxy mechanism caused a big difference in load times compared to Vray scenes. I don't know if you found Corona proxy files, when there are many. Caton is so serious that it defeats the original purpose of representation

I just had this problem, the renderer didn't give me any indication that the background sky was missing, but instead failed in the VFB rendering. Image I/O error after REloading the EXR Image. Later I found that it was the Chinese directory that caused the situation, and the renderer did not warn and tell me that my rendering result was not the correct result.

I have been analyzing the issue of rendering CR responsiveness in my scenes with their team in the FP forum, and it is nice to see someone bring it up. Whether 'GetRenderMesh' still affects the FPS speed of viewport backgrounds. This is a very useful question for dealing with large scenes, which I couldn't test because they gave me an answer: using the V-Ray agent, 'GetRenderMesh' is very fast because it returns a simplified mesh for the viewport.

Instead, Corona computes and returns the full grid stored in the agent, a process that takes a lot of time.

I tested the same object with the same number of faces, the FPS value can vary by 5%-10%, the more the number, the greater the difference

In this directory C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2021\Plugins did you try to fix the problem with NVIDIA? It seems to have something to do with Arnold

Could this be the reason for the cache? When using OSL, my colleague will also have the reason that there is no render result and the map cannot be read. Bormax I tried to convert the scene you sent us using Corona Converter shipping with Corona Renderer V7 RC1 and the shading network generated during conversion is simpler. In case of this scene, I noticed that there is still a problem with some duplicate nodes being generated during the conversion, which is caused by known bug in one MAXScript function (on 3ds Max side), we are aware of and already trying to fix, however this should have no negative impact on the visual result.

I seem to have found a way to temporarily solve the problem. This problem is a bug of Autodesk 3dsmax, but it does affect the existence of versions after CR7.0 (2021.3)
Because of this problem, I have reinstalled my WIN10 and all plug-in renderers countless times. I seem to get inspiration from my colleague. The low version CR and VR5.1 exist at the same time (without any problems), CR7.0 (2021 Daily build) and Vr5.1 exist (there will be a crash), create a maxstart.max in C:\Users\your username\Documents\3ds Max 2021\scenes and you will get a 2021.3update that perfectly fixes the BUG
