I did not invert the normal map, but maybe fliped the x or y axis in the shader.
And i used the c4d image loader, doesn't seem to work with corona's own one.

Hi, switching to linear color space seems to help somewhat (I could swear I tried this before). With a layer shader and a (127/127/255) color shader above the normal map image you can controle the normal strenght to a certain extend.
And sorry if I sounded a bit impolite, it was late at night ;-)

I can't understand why you don't solve such an mayor issue. Meanhwile i render blazing fast on my two 1070s in redshift...

Cheers

Hi,

will the normal mapping breaking the phong shading be bug adressed in a near future version?
https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,13355.msg86975.html#msg86975

my company is currently looking for a new engine to replace physical and corona with it's speed and tight integration into the cinema shading system looks really promising,
unfortunally the normal mapping is now broken for months and months, and this is really a deal breaker :-(

Normal Mapping is still broken.

You can create a two sided material by using a Corona Blend material an put Cinema's own Normal Direction shader into the blend slot.

It would be great to load texture maps directly into Corona Area Lights instead of using the Light Material or add a exclude/include option to those.

I tried several normal maps, all are gamma 2.2 in sRGB. In other renderers they all work fine.
This in really a serious problem that makes Corona in many cases unusable :-(

The problem also apperas when i just create a color shader with 127/127/255 in the normal map slot.

Also the bug that breaks the phong tag smoothing when using normal maps is present in the latest Mac beta.

I checked the version and it is the same, except I am running 17.048.

But I found out if i change the texture path from a relative to an absolute one it seems to work. I get a correct material preview but still a black picture in the normal shader itself.

Hi, I used the workflow as you described: bumpmapping > corona normal shader > bitmap
I am using a regular rgb normal map, used it in V-Ray before and it worked fine.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Strange normal maps problem
« on: 2016-04-19, 21:50:23 »
Hi,
i have some strange normal mapping problems since v4.1 and it is still present in 5.1.

- normal maps are not displayed in material preview using the corona bitmap shader
- normal maps don't react to strength value in the bumpmapping channel
- phong-tag seems to have no effect when normal maps are beeing used (see shading on the sphere)
- lack of detail in the normal maps when using the corona bitmap shader

Could it be that I am missing some MS Visual C++ Redistributable Packages that could cause the problem?

System is Windows 10 Pro 64bit and the problems appear in R16 as in R17. Also take a look at the attached images :-)

Thanks!
