Hi there!

Thanks a lot for the updated version! Really useful script. However, after some time (maybe a month or something like that), when I click on the script button it only gives me the curve over the screen with no actual UI opening, and I can not disable/hide the curve unless I restart the scene :(

Any clues about that?

Thanks a lot,

Namik.

Hey Namik, sorry to hear you're having issues. That sounds pretty strange though as I wouldn't expect it to work for a while and then stop. Maybe there is a chance the UI window for the script has moved off screen? In this location: \AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2022 - 64bit\ENU\scripts\ you can find the ini file for the script "imagecomphelper.ini", there is a line towards the top pos=[xxxx, yyyy] (x and y will be numbers) if you change the numbers it will change where the UI opens.

There is also an updated version of the script on our website that maybe worth trying:
https://thefactioncgi.com/the-faction-blog/2021/1/20/free-script-image-composition-helper-for-3ds-max-updated

Let me know if that fixes it.

Guys, if there is any chance to make it work not only in the active viewport?
I really miss this option so that I can move the camera from another viewport, looking at the result with the grid.
Unfortunately not, we've not been able to figure out how to do this, or it's even possible. I would love to be able to do too, as I work the same way as you. Maybe someone out there knows, if you find a script that seems to be able to lock to one viewport, let me know and we'll see if we can transfer that sort of functionality.

Hey everyon, we recently updated the long used ImageCompHelper script from Christoph Bülter to include a bit more functionality.

Here's the page for the original script to give you a basic overview of what it does.
http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/imagecomphelper

The major additions we've made are:
  • Golden spiral now works in Portrait mode too, can be unlocked, zoomed and moved around.
  • Toggle button to quickly switch between portrait and landscape.
  • There are drop downs for different common aspect ratios.

Hope it's useful for you all!

[EDIT]: After installing and you want to find it in 3ds Max, it is under TheFactionCGI category.

Hardware / Re: 2990 wx - low CPU usage
« on: 2020-09-19, 18:43:06 »
Sorry to resurrect this, but I had the same problem, drivers, etc were all up to date, and I fixed it. The problem turned out to be CorePrio, that lauded program that was recommended early on in the days of the 2990wx to get windows to better use the NUMA nodes.

So if you look at your CPU usage in task manager and set it to NUMA and nodes 1 and 3 are ~70% while 0 and 2 are 100%, and you are up-to-date with windows and have CorePrio installed. Try uninstalling it.

Unfortunately not. It's almost done, but there are few illusive bugs that we weren't able to track down and fix in time. To prevent delaying v6 release any further, we are forced to skip this feature for now. It should however be released in one of the first v7 daily builds shortly after the v6 final release.

On the other hand the Corona Scatter has already been changed to update asynchronously in the background, which is pretty much the same thing we want to do here for bitmaps and proxies. So if your scene heavily uses Corona Scatter, it should already open a bit faster.

Hey Ryuu, thanks for the update, a bit of a bummer, but totally understand. Looking forward to v6 (and v7 dailies). Our main issue is those of us working from assets on a networked drive, though we recently improved things greatly by excluding windows defender from scanning 3ds Max and the asset drive completely (in case anyone else is having similar issues)

Do you guys think you'll complete the "Shortening Time Spent Opening the Scene" card from Trello https://trello.com/c/9koqWvNM for Corona 6?

Had a couple days of downtime this week, so this got thrown together. We do quite a lot of chalet projects in the winter so the goal was to work on merging different displacement maps for the snow as well as stream lining our workflow for adding "fresh" snow to objects like the roof and various trees.

Hey everyone, we just wrapped up this project a few weeks ago, definitely one of the most bonkers properties we've ever worked on. But, as a result we were able to find a lot of interesting shots outside of the usual "whole room" angles.

There's a lot of images from this project, I've put a dozen or so here you can find the rest of the website. https://thefactioncgi.com/chalet-tataali

Hey everyone, this is another chalet project we did over the winter. The snow material is a culmination of about 6 weeks of tweaking and tinkering. We couldn't get any good site photography, so we build the whole landscape in 3d. We're pretty happy with how it all turned out.

Let us know what you think!

Hey Maru, cheers, it's fixed!

Hey everyone, just in time for summer :P this is a project we worked on earlier in the year. It was our first foray back into chalets for about a year which had it's own challenges, as well as working with a new client. In the end we were pretty happy with how it turned out.

Let us know what you think!

Cheers, we're just disabling the "Fast preview denoiser" for now

13
Cheers Rowan, glad you could reproduce it. Good luck

Still crashes unfortunately. There was a bit of confusion in the office here about the steps I was taking to cause the crash, so I just want to clarify.

If you open the max file I first attached here, go to the performance tab and tick Fast Preview Denoise During Render, so it's on. Then start an interactive render in the Corona VFB, then click stop and try to Store from VFB, it crashes all 4 computers now (including the Threadripper, I'll edit that earlier post).

Hope that helps.

15
Ok, I'll try this on one of the problem machines.

A little more testing revealed that I can Store the VFB while rendering and after the max pass limit has been reached without any crashes. It's only if I stop mid IR and try to Store.
