[Max] Resolved Bugs / corona 2 install not working
« on: 2018-06-27, 16:21:27 »
the installer was messing up for me.
First it would not install and have an error that would flash off.
Then it looked like it did install.
Opened up max and notice I was still on the old release.
Re downloaded
Re installed and it deleted Corona from 3ds max.  Also got some errrors about not being able to write the C:/******

re downloaded this morning --
here is what the log shows

Hey guys,
I got my Ryzen 7 1700x up and running.

the board and cpu combo cost $430.... achiieved over clock of 4.9 ghz but I left at 4.8 ghz...its more stable and runs cooler.

Been running inside max for about 2 days and about  6 hr and no problems so far.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Creating a render farm
« on: 2017-05-26, 06:50:16 »
Hey guys,
thanks for all the great info.  Just wanted to add my 2 cents and add a question.

As far a GHZ speed between processors I have seen very little difference.   I have gone from a 6 core 3.4ghz to a 6 core 4.2 ghz and only got about 10% difference on the benchmarks..... After I saw this I throttled down the Overclock... there was no reason to run the risk of an OC and power consumption.

Quesiton:
What is your take on RAM consumption if I was too only rely on DR rendering...several machines working on one stil.... Can the main machine have all the ram and the rest just have bare minimum RAM.... just wondering, what your thoughts were.

background
I am building a dual 8 core cpu machine.  But I was thinking of buying some cheap $200 all ready built HP quad processor machines.  The only downside with these machine they have very little ram.

[Max] General Discussion / Corona rendering contest
« on: 2016-03-17, 19:26:11 »
I wondered if Corona, would ever considering sponsoring its own rendering and lighting contest.  Either with user models or a given scene.

I thought about posting an unofficial challenge even. Or even a weekly challenge thing. Would anyone be up for this.

Hey rommullus, thx for the help.
Yeah that should work, seems obvious now.  Just been awhile since I was doing photo integration stuff  (which is exactly why I started )   thx again.

thanks romullus ,  I couldnt get that to work for me.  So instead, I did what I should of done all along.

Mad a inverted sphere in max, put a cam in the middle and take a render.

attached is the the orignal spherical and new the  backplate taken from 3d max

here is a HDRI, with back plate Test

the interesting thing here is I used spherical enviroment HDRI, but then flatten it with ptgui- demo version.  If you know any other way to get a back plate from the spherical enviroment , please let me know

Work in Progress/Tests / Re: Advice for a beginner

just catching up on your thread.

In response to earlier comment of "feels abandoned"
Might I suggest starting a new scene based on a real location.  Seems like you learned a lot from this and using your imagination.

But you will learn a lot when creating something from real life and understanding why aspects of building and enviroments do what they do.  From the way they are designed (Guidelines that go into the thought of a building a building)  or the way textures get worn and used, either though man made use or enviromental concerns.

Not sure where the inspiration for this building came from but there are definitely parts that dont make sense as to their function in reality.

This is only my advice, as it helped me lot and I still pull reference, and ask my self in reality why would this wall be here or this opening. Why a  10 ft vs 12 ft corridor.

I guess if I was to change one thing is , the brick that takes up 90% of the building , either vary it up with different  brick textures or uses other materials on different walls.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Region Renders - quality
« on: 2015-08-14, 21:41:44 »

I have done similiar test but never really had a problem with the render matching the quality as long as I limit the passes.

If it is a jump in quality a quick solution would be render a region about 20% larger than you need, and then feather the fullsize together with the croped render.  But again I have never seen the problem you are describing.
