Title: RenderToTexture support
Post by: Kif on 2013-03-20, 10:42:41
Is it possible?

will render to texture be even possible in this type of render?

do you have a use-case how it is used, what it has to produce?

do you have a use-case how it is used, what it has to produce?

- "baking texture"
- making textures for lowpoly objects
- prerendering lights and shadows

In general it bakes various render elements (GI, DIFF, BEAUEAUATY, LIGHT, SHADOW) on UVW layout of selected object

and here is some basic tutorial with exaplme:

Very important for gaming environment (UDK for example) for create a lightmap. UDK Lightmass is very poor

Bumping this up. Great for fly-by's, if not much shiny objects in the scene - rendering one time to texture, baking GI, lighting, etc. Then just can render it to animation of any length with scan-line in near-realtime.

It is also useful if you simply want to bake a texture without switching to scanline, which would also require setting up a new material.

Warning: pressing 0 (render to texture) when Corona is selected as current renderer makes max crash. At least this happens for me.
It was caused by another plugin - NOX renderer.

+1 on this feature. If this was implemented I could leave vray for good! It's absolutely crucial for creating lightmaps for 3D games (can you imagine a 3D walkthrough with Corona quality in real-time?)

This would also speed up fly through animations by thousands of percent!

+1000 for this feature :)

I'm on the board for this one too. For an nearby future I think it'll be a crucial thing to have under the hood.

need this feature.
All Unity game or virtual visit  (in archviz for ex) use texture bake from 3d app if it's not made in unity.
Need it please .

got my vote too! Would be very handy for my job in the simulation industry.

Another vote for RTT support!

A friend sent me here to try out Corona. What a nice renderer! However I can't use it because it doesn't support RTT. :(

Lightmapping is used a ton in games because it's all precomputed so it doesn't slow down the realtime rendering, however you get high quality lighting (for static scenes).

Here's a RTT usage example, which I worked on. The whole environment uses RTT lightmaps (baked in Unity using Beast). There is only one dynamic light, right above the player character. All the rest is precomputed.

RTT is also used in architectural pre-visualization rendering, especially for interactive realtime 3d walkthroughs. This is my current project, for which I need a good fast lightmapping renderer in 3ds Max.

Radiosity is interesting, but has horrible tesselation artifacts. Mentalray is nice but terribly slow. V-Ray, Finalrender, etc. are usable, but expensive. Corona sounds like it will be more affordable.

Please add RTT to your feature list.

Yep.. I need it as wel.
Please Corona give us RTT

RTT is really very usefull for many applications. It is probably the most important missing feature for me.

Hey ;)
Is the feature already in development? I need it for an VR Project and i wanted to ask if it could be possible to use this feature in about a two month time :)

It has pretty much the same votes as hair parsing in your poll about wanted features, hopefully you work on this feature first :D I´m pretty sure you could open corona to a new market with this feature :D

Otherwise i would need to use Vray for my project which is really lame :(

no, I would not count on it

no, I would not count on it

Are there any news on this feature? Is this feature in development or won´t there be a chance to use this feature in the next months?

Any update on this?

I have an interesting project going on and this would be Godsent .... any speculation when this will be implemented? This on a schedule?

Thanx a ton! Corona rocks!

I am getting lightmaps that are a bit off, I posted here about it.

https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,16749.0.html

They say these are accurate, but it they don't look accurate to me. Like the they are baking 1 or 2 pixels off where they should be.

Can you stop spamming all over the forum please? Or i will be forced to start deleting all your out of place messages. Let's stick to single topic per problem - you're getting enough attention over there.

If you like you can delete the other ones, this thread had a dev on it so was hoping he could see what was happening and let us know if it's intended behavior.
