Title: Corona Bitmap (Mapping) vs. UVW Xform modifier
Post by: cjwidd on 2021-09-12, 19:51:48
Corona Bitmap and 3ds Max bitmap scale UV tiling from the center of the texture space while the UVW Xform modifier scales UV tiling from left to right.

This feels like a typical development oversight from Autodesk, but I'm wondering if there is a way to align the functionality of these two (three) implementations(?)

Right now, the only way to replicate the UVW Xform modifier in the mapping settings of a Corona Bitmap is to offset the UV tiles, but this can get really complicated for arbitrary offsets.

Hi,

Yes, you are right. But Main purpose of the UVW Xform is to offset the existing UVW Mapping. If you want to tile, why not directly use the tiling from the map? I want to understand what is the use case of this?

However, Aligning should not be that much complicated because when you are using UVW Xform then all the even numbers for UV tiling such as 2,4,6,8 and so on will have a offset value of ".5" and that's it.

Here you can see it in the video "https://bit.ly/3tGTXDP"

I hope this helps.

Avi

I don't know why cjwidd wants to match modifier's and bitmap's center of transformation, but there are few situations when having tiling baked in UV is beneficial. For example, when you want to try several bitmaps and don't want to be bothered with adjusting tiling in each of them, or when you're planning to bring the asset outside of 3ds Max and/or Corona and want minimum fuss when recreating shaders elsewhere.

Yes, In that case, what I described should work. If someone can provide a simple scene for the same then I can look further into it.
