Title: Problems with Denoise
Post by: Feodor on 2019-11-16, 19:12:03
Denoise smoothes polished surfaces.
This is the problem I noticed in denoise. Pay attention to the refrigerator.

Use less denoise than 1 (usually 0.5 or 0.6 is recommended, with enough passes for that). Alternatively, add an additional Beauty render pass, and set it not to use denoising (or, some denoising but significantly less than the main Beauty), and blend in post using a mask (manual, or you could use an object id mask in the render passes too). "Blurring" is of course just what a denoiser does, and finding the right amount is the balance between blurring the noise and not blurring details - and sometimes the blending in post between different denoising is the easiest solution.

(Or of course, use no denoising and render enough passes to clean the image without it, is an option too).

Hello! Thanks for the answer.
Yes, I know how to deal with this; no one canceled Photoshop. I just thought that denoise should not smear the texture. :(

What denoiser do you use? Coronas High Quality or one of the AIs?

Now included Denoise from Intel.
On Friday I sent you this scene on another problem, 1k-apartament007.rar is called, it has this room and all the settings are there.

Well, denoiser works on blurring so it will smear the texture of course :) It's a matter of using the right amount so the details aren't affected as much. More passes you do, less denoise amount you need. As Tom said, try lower values as 1 will almost always smear everything.

Also try Corona HQ denoiser instead of Intel or Nvidia, it has best quality of them all and and it also does much better job at preserving bump map.

Thanks Romullus, I already do that.)))
