Title: Corona camera is too hard to select when without target
Post by: lupaz on 2019-06-06, 16:55:01
Is it just me or the corona camera, when target is off, is really hard to select in 3d space?
It seems it behaves as a point, no?

I don't have that issue. I can click on it based on whatever the Icon size is of the camera.

Hm.
Ok. Thanks!

We are getting mixed reports about this. If anyone is experiencing this, could you record a super short video demonstrating this? Maybe we are missing some important component.

Yes it seems it acts as a point. But I think this is a 3ds Max problem.

I also find a very long lag in displaying the camera info in the command panel. Only selecting Corona cameras does this for us.

In my case sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Even in the same scene with the same camera.

Same problem with long times of displaying camera properties in panel. Very long times sometimes...

I also have problem select camera and also long lag displaying camera in command panel. In my case in material editor is the same lag. With standard material and camera is no poblem.

Did you try to decrease selection pixel radius in 3ds Max preferences? I was mad how much worse selection became when i switched from Max 2016 to Max 2023/2024, until i found that setting. I'm not saying that it will definitely fix your issue, but it's worth trying. Honestly, default setting is set stupidly high, barely usable for me.

This is good to know, thanks. But still, the standard camera works better than the Corona one in terms of selecting, even after changing that setting.

Hi,

I have experienced this randomly, but not often. The scene you attached works perfectly fine with Corona 10 and 3ds Max 2024.1.

Also remember: there is selection cycling in 3ds Max (something brought from Revit probably) by not only clicking and then clicking again, but by simply pressing Tab. So, if you have multiple objects over the camera (or any other object) and it is not being selected/highlighted, you can press Tab once or for a few times and it should appear.

The selection radius affects the sub-object selection IIRC, so changing its value will not result in better selectable CoronaCamera.
Meanwhile I see that hovering over the lines of regular camera "snaps" and highlights better than over CoronaCamera (there are some parts of the lines of CoronaCamera which are not selectable) and this sure can be improved. It seems to have nothing to do with targeted or non-targeted camera, at least in Max 2024.

Thank you. Yes. I think your second GIF is right on point.
I am aware of the Tab key to select other objects behind the cursor, but to me this behavior happens when there aren't other lines on top (wireframe view).

In any case, I hope something is done about it pretty soon so it behaves like the standard camera.

Thank you.
