[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona Alpha4 Benchmark scene
« on: 2014-10-16, 23:50:54 »
5960X features basically the same (or better) overclockability than 5820K, so they can be close (25perc.) at base clocks, they really come apart at the top range (4.4 Ghz), where the performance you get from single CPU machine is rivaling the top Xeon range (as those have locked multipliers) and far precedes 50+perc. Sure, the CPU itself costs 3 times as much, but if you're comparing full workstation, for example 32GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, quality parts (NH-D15, platinum grade PSU 750W,etc..), GTX970, you end up comparing 1700 euro vs 2500 euro machine (prices out of head), one being 50perc. faster in rendering performance. And that's pretty good deal.

It's not good idea to do these comparison based on isolated part like CPU only. While that is what established the performance, in the overall scheme, with the price of 32GB DD4, SSD, quality PSU, X99 motherboard, it's not everything.
For node it's absolutely perfect though, it made 5930k literally obsolete and useless.

For workstation, even the 1000 euro pricemark makes 5960X worthy candidate. It's basically must buy.

Corona render to texture (Cof!... cof!)---

You would have to "hard-bake" it as overlay for each object's diffuse texture (and create unique variation of the same shader thus) because at the moment Unreal doesn't support importing of lightmaps.

I can see the pain of that :- ).

I had such discussion with Ronen in Venice, it does seem far too easy to most.

You seems like the type of guy I would gladly go for beer since I also talk far too much but these essays are horrible to read :- D

But I get you :- )

[regarding myself, I almost think I have condition where I feel bad for not answering stuff, but doesn't mean I am comfortable with it always, there were people who took advantage of me using that, so Veronika is now always pointing at me: "I told you!" :- ) .. ]

..

This !

I have to admit that I didnt quite catch what you ment Juraj :D

I just agreed to what he said, he formulated it quite nicely. I just shorted the answer :- D

Absolutely, I am repeating this to everyone :- )

I have Unreal4 for 6 months by now I think and CE3 for far longer (I used CE in school before I knew 3dsMax, I imported by Sketchup models and created environment from Crysis Assets) and I knew it's useless for regular Archviz, the work amount is simply not worth it unless budget and time don't matter anymore. And that's the practicality of the output..well.

But I am just having fun, creating small game assets for personal pleasure and watching others daydream of the "revolution" around corner...

This !

But then again, honestly, here i would probably also ask about the HDRI. Not because i expect it to automatically make me create pictures of the same quality, but simply because the map just looks pretty :)

Here you go ;- )

Anyone played with yet... ?

I love the new raytraced shadows, unexpected but nice feature !

Hi,
CPU clocked @4.4ghz no special overclock just a auto overclock with the Rampage Extreme V probabily manualy i can do even more, anyway for now i will stick with 4.4GHZ
i will post a printscreen now testing cinebench

Nice ! What's the Cinebech11 score ? Can you get up to 17-18 ?

Anyway, cool build ;- )

[Max] I need help! / Re: Rendering at 5k in Cororna 6 HELP
« on: 2014-10-16, 20:20:21 »
5K rendering can take 5GB, but also 50GB :- ) It does depend on your scene. Do you have displacement in your scene ? Does it render in low-res ? How much ram does it eat then ?

{{ Out of respect for Gorodkov, this should really go to its own thread, sorry man but hey, inspiring work :- ) !...}}

Coronaut, that was super confusing to me :- ). I guess you're really trying to speak your mind loudly...but you should probably clean in it up a bit maybe.

Anyway, the devil is in details and those details can be quite large. I don't think anyone would disagree that 3D community is super young compared to other fields and it heavily shows in its spoiled attitude in requesting information (or files!).
It is quite unheard of in professional photography community to ask for example something like this: "What lens and exact settings did you use, where did you stand, what time of day it was, how much post did you apply,etc.."
Asking freely such concrete questions instead of abstract concepts, means you're not interested in learning how he/she came to solution, but your wish to replicate it, and thus, copy. Uff, copying is another concept people don't understand in this industry
but I will not get into that now, that would be endless debate :- )

You felt bit to black-and-white seeing of the issue and I don't think Londonvisuals meant that at all although it seems most took it that way. Opposite of not answering impolite questions is not "I am not helping anyone". It's more "I am helping those who ask right questions".

I think you've done great job integrating all the detail and particulary greenery.

I would have gone for slightly bigger contrast, most notably in Sky, as it feels a bit flat.

ps:I've found the cats = )

Actually I think it should be way faster than the 4930, anyways, thanks for the 5960, pretty impressive, but if someone can post the 5820,I want to decide if it's better one 5960 vs two 5820 ,probably is not better but the cost is about the same, so I want to decide.

Cheers.

Full workstation/nodes with quality PSU, 32GB DDR4 memory and SSD ? You can take the passmark scores from CPUBenchmark, they correlate almost directly to Corona performance.

I understand what Londonvisuals was saying, although I too disagree with that end part (outsourcing,blablah..). I am actually sort of amused he was brave enough to stir such, I always welcome some negativity :- ) I think it's cool, he's honest so what's the issue ?

I also understand we're deeply in off-topic....but I can't not join. (Not talking to anyone in personal, I always just broadly say) Some people do take it too far with too selfish intentions. They simply ask the very "which order of buttons did you touch?" and hardly say thanks, then you see them using it like it's almost their invention. I've been burned but these people exactly because I am always happy to answer and help stuff. But there are some limits in society to what is considered "POLITE", and lot of people go overboard and I think it's fair to remind tham this is not good behavior.

Asking people basically "How can I copy you?" is NOT POLITE. And that's basically all those "which exact HDRi, which exact tonemapping did you use, etc". So Londonvisuals critique was absolutely valid, although rude mannered and with strange conclusion with outsourcing....but the core idea was sound, and I feel the same and agree with it.

This is quite young industry and I see lot of people basically don't know how to make the best of it without going overboard and misusing the good will and general friendly atmosphere that still exists. This will end though, and we will end up basically like photography industry, with every man for himself. Being inpolite and obtrusive will only accelerate this process. You can already see highly regarded people and studio, already ignoring the community with some even saying they hate it. So take that into account.

So the default amount is quite small, and amounts to usually 20perc. horizontal stripes if you do 2.5k render, is this not to hog the network ? (I presume what is transfered is .exr?)
I feel like I could lift this is up, and instead compensate the update time, as those stripes aren't much helpful anyway in visual feedback.

Or are there other reasons for the set default ? Can this be set to 'unlimited' (0; so it always sends full image) ? I have almost finished 10Gbe network so I guess that's not issue.
