There's couple more requests:

  • it would be nice to have statistics on actual number of scattered instances somewhere in CScatter settings.
  • don't know if possible, but it would be very very cool to have ability to assign random material id to instances.

Here's small trick with CoronaScatter. Lets say you want to distribute with CScatter some number of instances on certain area as evenly as possible. Usually results are not that good - in some places instances forms clusters, in other places there are large gaps left. That's not exactly what we want. Luckily, there is simple solution now. Set scatter count to relatively large number so instances would cover all area without bigger gaps, now enable strictness and adjust its percentage to desired level. You may fire quick render a few times and watch a instances count under stats tab if you want exact number. Viewport stats also can help :]

Vector displacement produces a lot of IND0 pixels. However, i must admit i don't have proper vector displacement map nor knowledge how to use it, so must likely i do it all wrong :]

Couple propositions:

  • allow avoid collisions - strictness to go to negative values, so instances could repel each other with greater distances than their bounding boxes. Implemented.
  • replace transformations from-to with offset. That way you'll have more space in UI to add maps to each slots. That would greatly improve CScatter possibilities, IMHO. Attaching possible UI mockup. 1st - original UI, 2nd - UI with offset, 3rd - alternative version with check boxes. V2 looks more clean, but V3 has so desired checkboxes. Though decision :] I didn't touch scale section - don't know how to improve it.

You're not alone. I prefer slight noise over butter smooth flat surfaces too. Little bit of noise can be perceived as details and quite often that benefits picture.
