Hardware / Working on Server/NAS

Hey Guys, I'am rethinking our current workflow and would like to make some changes in our network.

Currently we are 4-5 people working in the office. We have a QNAP with dual 1Gbit we use for archive and assets storing. Every user is working locally on their computers and copy the assets he needs from the server to local. After the project is finished it is stored on the NAS.
Now I'am thinking of getting a bunch of dual 10gbit cards, setup a FreeNas Server and move everyones work to the Server.

My expectations:
  • no time wasting with export/import of projects if somebody passes on a project to you
  • no relinking and less troubleshooting for network rendering/render managers
  • easier sharing of material libraries and other assets
  • better backup management
My fears:
  • It's going to be slow

What do you guys think? Is a 10gb network fast enough for everyone to source their assets/projects from the server? Or is working locally still the better solution?

3dsmax standard lights have a projection option.

Happened today once to me. I thought max froze and after touching something it just went on like nothing happened.

Edit: I was working on the machine so Anydesk RMD was not really active.

Rightclick your png sequence, interpret footage, color management tab and set preserve RGB to on.

Did you check the scene and xrefs for viruses?

Hello friends,

what about the 5950x? Looking at Corona Benchmark it is not too far away from 3960x. 3960x avarage is 38s vs 5950x avarage is 44s.
Just looking at these numbers it seems to be a reasonable alternative, espacially as the price of 5950x is about the half of the 3960x.

We have two 3960x workstations wich are pretty solid. Will there be much difference in performance or stability? Am I missing something important?

Get more Ram. 64gb is the minimum nowdays as models and textures get bigger and bigger.
For now you can try to check the "conserve memory" box in the performance tab of corona settings. Should be able to render but will take longer.
You can also downgrade your scene by optimizing your geometry and resizing textures, optimizing vegetation scatter, disabling displacement etc...

Do you or someone else know how the performance and the stability of corona run through Rosetta is? I need a Notebook for homeoffice and the 14‘ MacBook Pro would be perfect except Corona isn’t natively supported yet.

Just finished a big scene animation couple of day ago...

I wanted to try GarageFarm for a change but ended using RebusFarm at the end because we didn't have too much time on our hands to play around.

What I liked about garagefarm is that you actually have some sort of a online file browser and apprently can even connect via ftp to update your files. I also liked that they massage you once a problem is detected.
They do support multi camera upload but you need to setup the list everytime again you upload. What really annoyed me is the upload proccess itself. Their upload tool uploads the whole scene for every camera (in my case 5gb x 14 Cameras). Thats just crazy.

RebusFarm on the other side was easier to use with test frames as it uploads the scene once and then uses your Batch Render list to split it into jobs/cameras. The upload itself often produces errors if your textures are stored in some funny folders. Even on the lowest priority the jobs start rendering almost instantly. The render nodes had a lot of errors but the support was very helpful and kept restarting the nodes to keep it going. My questions about why the nodes where crashing and if I can fix anything on my side where basically unanswered. Some cameras had to be rerendered(for free) as some nodes rendered the frames with missing railclone objects.

For future use I really want to try GarageFarm a little more, on a project wich is not due in three days.

Just gonna drop this here:

Very simple: preload the app on your device, render your panoramas, create a tour with KrPano or Pano2Vr (their app supports both outputs), move the output on your device, done.
We are using it with OculusGo and are very happy with the result. They also have a windows software wich lets you connect to your googles so people can watch you on a live on a monitor.

Just render it with black direct overide and alpha. Compose later in photoshop.

I wouldn't do that... You'll get mask-lines on the 3D-edge where it goes over into the BG.

Thats why you need to render with black as a direct override.
