Hello.
I have different scenes which quite often have the same items in them. Therefore, I'll tend to copy the object from one scene, then open the other, then paste it. When I do this, the materials go bananas more often than not. Sometimes It'll just do straight swaps of my base colour materials, sometimes it'll just switch off the transparancy. Sometimes the translucency of my liquids and stuff will be completely wrong.

I've tried saving objects out, then merging them into my new scene (which is an absolute pain in the arse anyway) but its still goes wrong.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix? It's happening to my colleague too so I know it's not just me...

Thank you. I'll work around it.
On a side note, on some of the Corona tutorials there is a window ledge scene the fella uses to show volumetric and stuff. Is this scene available for download anywhere? Would like to test some of my materials in that scene if possible!

Hi folks. Thanks for getting back to me. I'll try those settings in a bit - when I can.
I can tell you though, that there are no lights in the scene - just HRDI illumination.
Will reply with any progress later... thanks.

Hi All.
I work a lot with metal and glass materials. Mainly in the fragrance industry.
Is there a way to 'see' the colours and materials a little better in the working window? It's quite frustrating when literally everything in my entire scene is black....!
Wondering if there's a way I can force a colour to at least display so I can see what's what when working...?
Thanks in advance....

Hello. Yes indeed. I'm using "Corona high quality" setting with a Denoise amount of 0.65 and radius of 1.

[C4D] I need help! / Shadowcatcher
« on: 2024-01-31, 14:27:30 »
Hello. I'm trying to work with the shadowcatcher material but my shadows are coming out grainy. I've tried fiddling with pretty much every setting I can see. If I render the scene onto a white 'floor' the shadows look absolutely fine. If I use a shadowcatcher then the shadows are very grainy.

Are there any settings I can play with that'll sort this? I have three Corona lights in the scene.

See attached image for two renders. One directly onto white. The other a shadowcatcher material, then with white behind it (in photoshop)
Any help massively appreciated...

[C4D] I need help! / DECALS and Instances
« on: 2024-01-18, 18:57:04 »
Hello
I often create a design concept where I have to show various views of the same item. I will usually create an instance of the object, move and rotate it etc.
Usually when I create the instance - the decal will just go missing. Won't feature on the render.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it a glitch/bug?
Any workarounds?
Thanks in advance!

Ooh just saw that 5 minutes after I posted here! It worked! Hurrah!

Hi All.
Been given a job where someone's dropped a 'standard' 3D model (with textures) into a Corona scene for me to carry out some amends on. However, all the textures are in 'standard' format and render out very dull.
Is there a way to quickly convert them all to Corona? There's nothing special or anything in there like volumetrics etc.
Surely there's a 'convert to Corona' button somewhere?
:)

Thank you sir!

No worries! My computer is a Mac Studio with an Apple M1 Ultra in it with 64GB Ram,. :)

Handy!

Oh no worries, I'm 100% all good with resolution and whatnot. I've been involved with digital design for 29 years! I don't know what the resolution is off the top of my head- I just use the box on C4D. We used to render them out at 150 and upped it to 200 recently that's all. In case someone wants to print one off. :)

Well it's simple maths isn't it? 200dpi at A4 size gives you an amount of pixels...

@BEANZ
They're retail displays mostly. For fragrances. Sometimes displacement, most times not. Actually rather simple stuff. Very little SSS or hair. ...

For a 210x297mm @200dpi image it's taking a minimum of 3.5 mins per frame.
Does that sound slow? (obviously this is a 'how long is a piece of string" comment).
Attached is an OLD render done in normal standard render. Will show you the kinds of things we do though...we've moved on technically and creatively since these were done (more than 8 years ago)....

:)
