Title: Peculiar DOF - 'Shadow' by Magdalena Marczak
Post by: cjwidd on 2021-10-14, 12:41:04
Trying to replicate this very peculiar DOF (https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/project_modules/1400_opt_1/389b42103373981.5f4d1eb46983a.jpg) achieved by Magdalena Marczak in a series of images called 'Shadow (https://www.behance.net/gallery/103373981/shadow)'. The effect almost appears like double vision, but with a concentric ovoid profile that is apparent on the glass and plant especially.

Also, does anybody have access to a Bokeh kernel library? I assume it's really just the shape of the Bokeh map that is driving the effect + bokeh anisotropy.

Hey @burnin, yeah I messaged her on Behance and she elaborated on the method - sounds like it really depends on the Bokeh kernel.

Mostly that, but also few other factors play role, just like in photography or human vision.
Here's some stuff for reference ;)

Wonky Bokeh (https://bertrand-benoit.com/blog/wonky-bokeh/)(B. Bernard's blog post)
DOF PRO (https://richardrosenman.com/shop/dof-pro/) (R. Richard's PS plugin)

And few other engines can also generate glare & flare based on dirt or occlusion map (like dust & smudges on lenses,  eyelashes...)
