Hi All,

I just got a system with the following spec:

i9-12900K Processor, 128G RAM, 2TB SSD, RTX3080 GPU on Windows 10 Pro Build 21H2

When I kick off a render, I see that only 8 of 24 of my cores go to 100%. On my old machine (Core i7 7900X), I don't have this problem - all cores go to 100%.

I know that the new i9 CPUs have some p-Cores some e-Cores, however it should still hit 100%. I thought this was an issue with CPU core parking, so I used a bitsum's "ParkControl" utility to force-unpark all the cores. Still, I only see 8 of the 24 "cores" showing full usage. Overall CPU usage is about 40-50% max.

At the same time, I ran IntelBurnTest for testing. All of the cores straight away shoot up to 100%, and Overall CPU usage shows 100% as well.

How can I get Corona to use 100% of the CPU?

Hi,

You need to upgrade to Windows 11. Windows 10 doesn't have full support for these CPUs.

I also recommend updating the BIOS to the latest version. We have one of these CPUs here and our performance was pretty terrible until we updated the BIOS.

Thanks,

Rowan

Thanks Rowan -- upgraded to Win 11; now 100% cpu across all cores.

Hi guys, I'm also having the same problem on a Ryzen 9 3900x with Windows 10.
The curious thing is that this did not happen before. Maybe it's because of some problematic Windows update?

Hi, I have this exact CPU model and no problems whatsoever. Also it does not matter here if you are using Win10 or 11.
Have you ruled out some basic issues like overheating?
Is this happening in every scene, even very simple, or only in a specific one?

Hi, this happens in some scenes, even simple ones. In two years it never happened but now it has started.. it's started on Corona 7 and now on 8 it's repeated.
Overheating doesn't seem to be because I'm monitoring it. Corona works 1 step then the processing drops, it stays for a while and then calculates the next step with 100% CPU then drops to 4 cores again, working a little.

I had thought of two possibilities: Some problematic material or some recent Windows update issues.
It's not the first time bad windows updates have caused problems. It has already happened that another scene has the same behavior on two or three different computers, with Win10.

I'll try to test the same scene on another PC of a friend with windows 11 to compare.
case my friend test's with Win11, I'll come back here to let you know.

I can suggest two things:
1) Monitoring your CPU usage and temperatures using Ryzen Master - https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master
2) Resetting your BIOS to safe defaults

Hi guys, finally find out the problem!
It wasn't on Windows but on some object in the scene. There were some bottle and garage utensil assets in the scene that were causing the issue.
After deleting some of them, the render returned to normal.

Moral of the story, be careful what you bring to the scene!
;)

It's probably a good idea to open a support ticket and send the support team problematic object and/or scene, so they could investigate the issue and fix the code if needed. You can do this here: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Yes, we would be interested in what kind of object can cause an issue like this.
