Good news is that we are now working more on standalone and formats compatibility, because we have many different applications we would like to work together (vray, corona, 3dsmax, C4D, material library, cloud, ...). While blender exporter is not part of this directly, it will profit indirectly (improved standalone, more maps supported, faster parsing, ...).
I am expecting the new improved standalone to hit public in about 2 release cycles (1 year)
edit: we have significant improvements right now in nonpublic builds, I mean 2 release cycles for fully stable public version
