Hardware / ergonomic work enviroment
« on: 2021-11-26, 12:02:38 »
Hi All,

As I'm getting older I have started to develop pains in my wrist/elbows and shoulder, mainly from sitting at a desk for long days. Finally had enough and I'm going to try and make my setup more ergonomic, I figured it must be a common problem with 3D artists so I wondered if anyone had found anything that helped? or what your setups are like?

I was thinking of buying the logitech ERGO K860 split keyboard and MX vertical mouse to start, is anyone currently using them? I have tried numerous mechanical keyboards over the years, the high key travel and clicking really doesn't sit well with me so I want to avoid that.

Also standing desks? Is anyone using one day to day? It's quite a big investment for something I'm not sure I will like. Is it practical going from sitting to standing with 2 big monitors and all the cables that come with it?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Render Elements saving out as noise
« on: 2021-10-27, 12:44:21 »
Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been answered already.
I'm rendering an animation but the elements (lightmix/reflection/velocity/zdepth) are coming out as black and white noise (attached). The actual render is saving out fine though and if I render 1 frame all the elements are showing how they should. Any thoughts on how I can fix this? Im saving as png so could that be the problem?
Corona 7- 4k cache, animation (flicker free), calculate from scratch every frame.

Thanks

Hardware / Setting up network via switch
« on: 2021-06-01, 14:02:49 »
Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of help regarding setting up a network to use backburner/CoronaDR. I currently have a Nas (qnap TS-x53D) A new workstation I purchased and my old workstation- which I want as a render node. I currently have the 2 workstations connected via Ethernet cable to the nas with the drive mapped and manually setting off jobs on both which is not ideal. So now I need to get the 2 workstations to see each other to network render but I can't work out how.

I bought a 2.5gbps Ethernet switch (https://www.qnap.com/en/product/qsw-1105-5t) and thought it would be a simple case of plugging the NAS and 2 workstations in and it should work....but nothing is communicating. So I have been doing some more research and everything I read is saying I need a router connected to the Internet to allow my WS+NAS to communicate via a switch? The problem is in my studio space I only have wifi and connect to the internet that way, I also don't want my NAS connected to the Internet for security reasons especially after the recent QNAP malware situation. Is it not possible to connect my 3 devices locally without the internet? I have built computers in the past but this networking has completely thrown me and I have ended up confused down a rabbit hole of info...

Thanks

[Max] Bug Reporting / error saving zdepth
« on: 2021-02-19, 12:31:46 »
Hi,

I recently rendered out a few animations and was testing out file formats to save and I had some errors when trying to save TGA or PNG.

The TGA was sent through backburner and PNG rendered straight from the scene.
They saved out the 1st frame elements but failed once it got to the zdepth, which in turned stopped the rendering of the 2nd frame. I wondered if it was something to do with the alpha settings in the file settings? Or if it's an error with my instal and I just need to do a reinstall?

I ended up saving as a TIFF which worked fine but it would be good to know the cause in case I have to save them out in the future.

Thanks

Hi All,
I just finished a little animation and thought I would share, it's been many years since I have done one but it was really fun to have a play around again and make a change from the usual stills.
Happy to answer any questions,
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on a proof of concept to offer an interactive walk through of a 3D space
as an alternative to long walk through animations that client typically ask for
(which I hate). I have used Layama to put it together which I think came out well.

Theres also some stills to go along with it for my social media.

Hey everyone,

Finally managed to finish a new portfolio project during this Lock-down and thought I would share it with everyone

I came across the architecture of Irving Gill during my travels in America walking past Horatio Court (completely by accident) and thought it would be fun to try and re-create and try to capturing the "LA vibe".

Thanks for looking!

Hardware / Windows 10 pro update failing
« on: 2019-11-18, 17:10:41 »
Sorry I know this is not specifically a hardware question but I thought it was the best place to ask.

I have windows 10 pro and for a few months now I have been unable to install any updates, during the update it blue screens then turns off, I then have to power up the computer twice and on the third time it reverts the the previous version and I can carry on as normal. I have been pausing updates but the last few days it keeps doing it while rendering at night which is super annoying...

I tried talking to the microsoft help center last time and they were not helpful at all and basically said to wait until the 1903 update pops up asking to be installed. I just wondered if anyone here had issues installing the updates on windows pro? below are the failed ones in question.

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 amd64 2019-04
cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 for x64-based system (KB4525237)

Thanks

Hi everyone.

I have been working on some black and white renders in my spare time and thought I would share them here. I added some 3D people in as its not something I have had to do for a long time, I couldn't afford super high-res ones though so go easy on that aspect!  :)

Thanks for looking!

There's some clay renders on the behance project if your interested as well.

Hi everyone 🙂

I  have been trying out some different styles recently in my spare time and these ended up looking pretty cool and retro so I thought I would share them.

I  have been working on a commercial project which will unfortunately  never been released so I thought for fun I would create a showroom and  use some of the models I made. It ended up being a mix of bought and  self modelled as I got carried away. Thanks for having a look!

[Max] General Discussion / rendering large images
« on: 2019-06-10, 12:14:52 »
Hi!

I'm quoting for a job and potentially they want the image on a 17 meter billboard...I have never done large scale renders before and wondered if anyone had any experience/tips on doing it? Its an outdoor aerial image so at least its not anything internal.

I'm also assuming its going to be killer on ram so I will need to upgrade from 64gb to 128gb?

I know that you can use blow up area to render to split in into quarters but I think the final resolution would need to be 240945 pixels at 36 dpi (if i calculated it correctly) is that even possible in Max/Corona? I tried a test with some boxes and it was struggling with 10,000 pixels.

Thanks and any help is really appreciated!

Hardware / Cpu fans ramping up when denoising
« on: 2019-05-08, 10:40:28 »
I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with a fan issue I'm having. Whenever I stop a render and it starts denoising the CPU fans kicks up for about 3 seconds, the same happens when in interactive rendering. I have 2 fans on it CPU cooler both running at 50% speed, which is pretty quite but when this occurs they both ramp up to 100%.

I have been trying to tweak bios settings etc ( latest bios 7B92v13 ) but I can seem to get it to stop. Normally it wouldn't bother me but I share a work space so its not ideal having a jet take off in the room every 10 Min's :)

I have a 2990wx, msi x399 meg creation,Thermalright silverarrow tr4. Sits at around 3.2ghz/ 60 degrees on an overnight render maxing out the PPT limit of 265w. Just wanted to check there is not some setting that anyone knows of in the Bios? or if its just a case of dropping the PPT limit?

Thanks!

« on: 2019-04-16, 12:29:28 »
I have just finished a new project R.G.B that I have been doing in my spare time.

The idea behind this project is that all Computer generated art has to start off using Red, Green or blue pixels so I created 3 room's using the colour pallette of each colour.

Theres a bit of a WIP in the forums,

Hope you like it and thanks for having a look!

Work in Progress/Tests / R.G.B wip
« on: 2019-03-03, 17:11:32 »
Hi!

I thought I would share some work in progress stuff for a new personal project I have been thinking about, I have a bit of spare time between client work so its time to start it and hopefully posting here will keep the motivation up a bit so I finish it!

The idea is to have 3 connected rooms each using either red, green or blue for the interior colour. originally I wanted to do a rainbow but I realised it was a bit too much work to come up with 7 rooms with different styles.

I'm going to start with the blue room. I wanted this one to be grand, the curtains where made using marvelous designer and for the chandelier I ended up using railclone as it was the easiest way to distribute the gems (I have thinned out the density of them since these renders).
