Since I had to put the stone detail on hold for now, here's a closely related project I thought I'd share.

I think I took post to a different direction than I intended. I'd like to get a cleaner image next time. I may be exaggerating surface imperfections too (only to clean them up in post).

I have to say.. your grass (in the original post) looks excellent!

What was your process?

Can't take credit for that!

I started from the excellent meadow by darstellungsart. Edited geometry and the distribution maps and tweaked the materials slightly. I also tend to obsess a little with adjusting the scattering with distance maps. It's CoronaScatter, not FP

Yes! I should've waited before I started posting haha

It's a different veneer now. I'll try and manage to make it prettier, especially since the variations according to the actual supplier are insane.

I'm taking way, way longer than I should to get on the right path, but it shouldn't matter since I'm not getting paid™ for anything nearly on this level of detail. So it's non-commercial. Doesn't hurt to try and improve.

Attached an IR preview with some progress.

For the the tonemapping I'm using the Corona ACES Emulation  config from dubcat. :)

It does wonders.

Ah, and great images, of course! I really like the colors.

My first post here, any criticism is very welcome.

The architecture itself is still an ongoing project, but I rendered a preview showing this stone finish. Turns out the gaps are too wide and my usage of RoundEdges didn't turn out as expected (are there any limitations with RoundEdges and Multi/Sub-Object materials?).

If time permits I'll be tweaking the finer details. There's also a reference photo.

Thanks!

if the result looks good, then it is good.

Yes! I might be overthinking the matter, as usual

Thank you!

Thank you for replying!

But I meant in terms of what LightMix does to the HDRI. Since there's this:

Significantly increasing the intensity of a light source in the LightMix will introduce noise

I wondered if it's good practice to adjust the HDRI intensity exclusively through LightMix (using it not only for testing lighting, but for a final render), as long as it's not an excessive difference in values.

I've been reliant on LightMix to adjust HDRI intensity, especially with exteriors, and it somehow feels like bad practice. Am I losing dynamic range somehow?

Are there any downsides to relying on it too much to light the scene?

Thought I'd ask, since I'm admittedly not as knowledgeable as most of the folks here when it comes to what's going on under the hood.

Floor texture is off the charts. Great work

You guys can try Mike Kelley's tutorials from F-stoppers. (He has 3 tutorials there)
https://fstoppers.com/product/mike-kelleys-where-art-meets-architecture-1

Mike Kelley seems like he's a great professional, but some photographers have a completely different mindset than that of visualizers. A true 180 degrees.

I've seen an image where he literally excluded all pillars of a building, making it float 100%, just because otherwise the "image wouldn't convey what it's like to be there". And that's what I mean by completely different mindset.

Good material to watch, but be mindful of that.

Everyone knows Corona is beloved by people in Archviz. And in other familiar fields as well, of course. But what do you imagine is the most eccentric use of the renderer?

Wow. How many of you are there? You're very prolific and consistent. Such great work

Thanks! It's unfortunate that Arroway don't sell most of their stuff individually. I'd be okay with paying a higher price for single textures. As cool as their Stone collection is, I've absolutely no need to have dozens of them

Wow. And on top of everything, a cool breakdown and a good choice of music. Phenomenal work

The mood comes out a bit more on the second one. I like it :)

Can you recall where the stone wall texture is from?
