Title: Corona Converter Metal Issue
Post by: GabrielNyr on 2021-08-06, 23:00:03
every time I run the corona converter, most of my materials are configured as metal, regardless of what they are, is there any way to convert several objects to non-metal at once?
and in addition, it leaves some glass materials with IOR reflection 1.0, leaving no reflection at all.

imagine correcting the 1 by 1 materials of dozens of books and decorative objects in one scene, it's a lot of work.

they are normally objects coming from the vray but even in objects that were already corona it happens.

I'm considering going back to corona 6 just because of that

Can you send in some example materials that don't convert the way you would want them to (private uploader), so that we can use those to look into fine-tuning the converter?

I wish I can convert Vray material to CoronaLegacyMtl, I am still not familiar with new Physicalmtl, except to glass - it is great and easy to use.

@GabrielNyr - if you are having some issues with the conversion, please share an example scene with us (or some simple objects like cubes with the problematic materials).

@Zray - why exactly would you like to convert into the Corona Legacy Mtl? In what specific cases does the Legacy Mtl appear "easier" than the Physical one?

I was running into this issue. but then the most recent update allows you to convert to a physical material instead of legacy.

how to:
Convert scene > Check convert corona legacy materials

Should be good to go!
transfers metals, textures, refractions, everything!

The converter seems to convert all older materials to “metal” still from V-Ray models. if one buys lots of models as I do with lots of materials - both V-ray and Corona 6 models (metal and non-metal), it is functionality useless because of this glitch.

I've just downgraded to Corona 6, which solves some problems but causes others.

Also I have encountered this type of problem trying to convert a model, both with crown 7 and with crown 8.
This also when selecting the non-metal conversion.
Any solution ?
Thank you and good day

Hi,

Thank you for providing the scene. I was able to reproduce this issue on my end. I have logged this issue on our system for further investigation.

I was wondering the same thing. This issue is still not solved!

Here is another topic regarding this problem:

It's about the Fresnel Reflections checkbox in the Vray Materials. If it's not set (default = set) Corona converter converts it into a CoronaPhysical with metallness set to metal.
We brought some Vray asset packs where the creators disabled the checkbox inside the Vray materials and they convert into Corona Metal.

Also the Corona converter "Metallness" dropdown setting is broken and don't force "non-metal" onto them, making the matter worse.

We circumvent by batch setting the checkbox onto our vray materials before we convert them to Corona.

Devs: please fix the converter and find another way to distinguish if materials should be converted with metal / non-metal.
