[Max] Feature Requests / Denoising Cube Maps
« on: 2023-04-28, 15:21:10 »
Hello,

We render a lot of cube map walkthroughs at my office but we can't use the denoiser because it causes seams where the different sides of the cube meet. It would save us a lot of rendering time if we can just use the denoiser for the last bits of stubborn noise. Is this a feature that's possible to implement?

We have the same issue with the sharpening/blurring effect, but that's more of a nice to have where as the denoiser would really make a huge difference.

Thanks

[Max] I need help! / Controlling Render Exposure
« on: 2023-04-14, 17:18:34 »
Hello,

I'm trying to render at a target exposure. I used to be able to do that before the new tone mapping by using the photographic exposure for the camera. The reason is in my previous tests from years ago that used to significantly reduce render times (maybe that changed?) Is this something we're still able to do with the new tone mapping?

You can see in the attached image the original linear value is way too bright. We always correct that with tone mapping so it's not so much a question about how to get the right look but trying to improve performance.

Thank you.

Hello,

We've been this error pop up on some of the nodes on our farm. The render finishes fully then it crashes on save giving this error

corona exr image format - error creating image storage

Any ideas what's going on here?

Many thanks

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Crash on render nodes
« on: 2022-03-13, 01:57:15 »
Hello,

I'm having an error when I try to render this scene on our render nodes. Basically they will finish rendering then give this attached error right before saving

The odd thing is the scene has been rendering normally on nodes with full workstation licenses. We are running Corona 7 hotfix1 on 3ds max 2022.3

I'm happy to upload the scene for debugging privately as this is a very sensitive project.

Thanks in Advance

[Max] I need help! / Cube map seams
« on: 2021-05-14, 19:45:57 »
Hello,

I'm rendering a series of cube maps (3ds max 2020 + Corona 6) for use with Layama. I have tried turning the bloom and glare off and I am rendering with tent image filter but I can't get rid of those seams on the edges. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Is there a solution?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Max Ray Depth
« on: 2019-12-20, 22:21:49 »
I'm often running into the issue of infinite reflection with opposing mirrors lately, it seems mirrored walls are in vogue at the moment. anyway setting the max ray depth to 100 doesn't help and I always have to fix it manually in photoshop. Is there a way to set it higher or even better to infinite? Provided that doesn't mean infinite render times of course.

Thanks.

Hello,

I have just set up corona render nodes and when I send render jobs via backburner it seems they are rendering using the 3ds Max native VFB rather than the Corona VFB. It seems to rendering fine using the corona frame on the computers with a workstation license. I'm wondering if there is a setting I'm missing to activate that or is that the expected behavior for render nodes?

These are the software specs for all the machines:

3ds max 2020.2
Corona 5
Windows 10

Thanks,

Marwan

Hi,

I was wondering if there's a way to do that in corona as you would in the 3ds max scanline renderer so you can easily produce 2d sprites. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Marwan

[Max] I need help! / First time corona user
« on: 2017-05-31, 16:45:31 »
Long time Vray user here, first time using Corona, although I've been quite curious about it for a while now. So I've finally made the jump and downloaded the demo, and converted a project into Corona mid production, which was a breeze thanks to the converter. In the end I was able to turn the project around better and even faster than it would have taken me to wrestle with vray to get the look I'm after or spend countless hours in post after every inevitable client change. And on a personal note, it's just a joy to work with. So I want to thank the dev team for such a top notch product. I'm already working towards completely switching over in the next month or so.

That being said, I did have some trouble with some elements that I just couldn't get on my own,

1.The full resolution image was rendered at 5k, 290 passes, and yet the image is still very noisy, especially the geometry at the back is very fuzzy. I should point out that I've used Rebus Farm to render the image. Since it was my first time with Corona I didn't know how to gauge how many passes I needed, so I've set it to 25RP which I thought is plenty for an exterior image like this, but Rebus does not support denoising so I couldn't utilize it. So my question is how many passes is enough for a scene like this? And is that indeed the solution or is there something else I'm missing?

2. This is not the typical case but since the pool here has glass walls, you can see in the image the pool is "wavy" on all sides, I've tried separating the top water surface from the rest, by both detaching it into a separate object, element, or mat id and then using the an identical material except with bump map disabled and that seems to have broken the absorption. Is there a way around this?

3. Caustics, I've tried searching on the forums and in the helpdesk and couldn't find a reliable way to get caustics, is there a way around this even if it needs to be rendered separately and comped in post?

Thank you
