Hi Forum & Team Corona,

Good work on release 10 :-)... I have a question regarding purchased material packs (Siger & 3D Tools). The carpaint materials in Siger take some time to update once imported into the scene before it is actually finished previewing in the material tab. 3D Tools layered materials, which are fantastic btw, good work Stefan L btw, take almost 5mins to bring in. I saw on your promo video 3D Max will have a faster material workflow. Will this come to C4D? Is there a way to speed this up in C4D? If I have a tight deadline, I can't be held back by slow materials loading and making everything sluggish. Please let me know if there is some kinda workflow config I could do :-) John

Hi Jonny,

glad you find our 3dtools materials great, makes me happy:)

for bringing them into the scene, they do not take 5 min usually, typically a few seconds, I use them myself daily for our render jobs.
What can cause this is are wrong set, or too many not ideal file search paths in your c4d file search preferences. This is not related to Corona or the mat libraries.

as they are hundreds of materials per bundle, use them best via the c4d browser, then you have them instant, with nice previews, and import only the ones needed in your scene (important all materials at once might indeed take some time as they are 8k and many).

you can contact me for help if you want. c4d corona is working fast/normal with materials, but c4d is delicate and can get slow if it not finds textures right away or has paths setup issues,  of course also where the textures are saved etc, disc speed and so on.

best greetings
Stefan

Hi johnnyswedish,
Thanks for contacting us, and also, thanks for the kind words.
There are different things that can cause issues loading materials/textures.
C4D itself is in charge of loading/reading (in other words: file handling) external files.
If you're loading a considerable amount of hi-res textures, it might be a little bit complicated for C4D to handle the whole task of reading heavy texture files.
As Stefan-L already mentioned, you can try loading fewer materials (considering they're using 8k texture maps) and/or using an SSD to store all of your textures/materials to speed-up things a little bit, etc.

Hi Both,

Thank you for your replies and I do agree, paths are probably the issue. I am using one of my internal 1TB SSD drive for these. I have a second interna 2TB drive for my apps and some textures. Stefan, would it help if I send you my 3DTools texture path/structure? I bought the concrete as well BTW, very detailed, have some old MotionSQ concretes but not very good for closeups so well needed :-) Thanks again guys!
