[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Re: Render Region
« on: 2012-10-31, 11:17:45 »
Yesterday I discovered you can use render region in standard max's VFB when using Corona. Just uncheck "custom vfb" in "Main Corona Settings" tab. -_-

Good as for a first render. :)

Solid glass is for thick objects like a block of glass. Thin glass is for thin objects that need to be reflective and transparent like soap bubbles.

It is supposed to work this way. Everything is fine. The only non-realistic thing is that last vray render.

I'm looking glass material improvement. At present, the use of twosided glass, do not show the correct refraction.
Why? Can you post examples?

Ever thought of donations? Seriously?

Try to disable on glass material "cast shadow" and if there is glass that light passes through but that is not visible in the viewport hide it completely. Also try to decrease max sample intensity to 2...

As far as I know, you should never disable shadows in Corona as it is non-physical. You can make window glass as a one-sided, single face and in its material properties change type to two-sided, this might help.

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Re: RAM limit
« on: 2012-10-29, 21:41:56 »
Tried rendering few objects with displacement projected size set to 0,5px and resolution higher than 800x600? I usually get a monstrous freeze, windows turn into white rectangles and everything (even usb mouse driver) stops responding. Typical for stuffed up ram. I know I have an extremely low-end pc configuration, but I think it would be cool to have such feature.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Displacement + Motion Blur
« on: 2012-10-29, 21:13:05 »
Haven't seen any motion blur tests yet, so I decided to make one.

Uploading two renders - one with displacement on, one with displacement off. Guess which one is which. ;)

The dice are uvw mapped chamfer boxes, the faces with displaced holes in them are single faces. Displacement projected size is set to 1px.

Maybe. I'm talking about something that would prevent Corona from eating ALL the available RAM.

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / RAM limit

I'm not sure if it works this way, but would it be possible to set a memory limit to prevent system freezes when Corona eats up too much RAM? For example when rendering very detailed displacement or having only 4GB of memory like me? :)

Umm... how about "reduce noise" effect?  :)

I know it's just a "for fun" render but I think DOF is far too heavy here!

Not bad as for 30s per frame.

Off-Topic / Re: Corona Popularity - Introduce your self
« on: 2012-10-29, 00:16:01 »
Started CG in 1999-2000 at last year of high school with caligari trueSpace and Bryce3D (!!), then switched to max 5 at university (Radiosity and Light Tracer, they were like science fiction to me). Since 2005 started using vray, then in 2007 switched to Mental Ray, then another time to Vray this year due to inefficient light solutions during my thesys project (lot of indirect illumination and particular light condition, in the future I will make some tests with Corona...).

I'm 23. I remember playing (literally!) with caligari truespace on a 166MHz pentium when I was in primary school. It was one of first 3d graphics apps I remember. Next ones were Bryce 5 (it was amazing), Poser, Max 5, some early versions of CAD (I'm not sure what it was but I remember makings lathes from splines and "baking" them as bitmaps). I'm proud to live in times where computer graphics achieved such progress.
