Hi there, sorry for asking, but how would one do it without using a Corona sun and sky object?

Have you tried applying a C4D sun tag to the Corona sun object?

As I understand it, setting things using that control now has everything positioned realistically. There wouldn't be a way to "rotate what is north" because you can't do that in the real world and these are real world settings for the sun :) And indeed, all you need to do is just like in real life - simply turn the camera around....

Architects turn sometimes the model and then the north is not in the up direction.
It was not a problem with vray, sky and sun in a null objet and rotate to match the north should not be impossible ! I am very surprised about that.

You could use XPresso to achieve that.

On further inspection, I see that we have had a report about this in the past and have it logged.

To Beanzvision : yes I had posted a ticket to support in the past
To Cinemike : I tried Shawn Astrom tip with XPresso (Corona Sky Link to C4D Physical - Youtube) but cinema 4d crashed (I use C4D 2023.2.0).

Try this one.
The sun expression is on an innocent Null and is transferred onto a Corona Sun. The Null also has an offset parameter as user data to rotate the sun as you wish.
I hope I did not mess up something, please let me know if there are issues.
