Title: Alpha V2 and Bumpmapping
Post by: kod3d on 2015-05-08, 16:46:14
Hello everyone!

I'm very exited about the new release! It is much faster than the previous one so far and the portals are a great addition. One thing though that is strange is the bump mapping. It seems like the highest i can input as a value is in the range of 0.001-0.002, anything more than that and the bump is too much. As you can imagine this is not a very useful range. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Is this something that is programmed to be fixed in the final version?

Thank you for this release and looking forward to the final payed version!

KOD.

Noticed to, also the sun and sky default values are off.  In 3dsmax the default values are the advised settings as they represent the real thing, however in C4D i have to change both multipliers to 0.1 to represet a normal setting.
I always felt that was a bit strange, but you can always change it.

Yes I do agree that the bump is too high by default, meaning that even values of 0,001 do look strong on some situations.

My suggestion would be to put a filter over the bitmap and play with the brightness / gamma (or anything else that affects the image) in order to fine tune it :)

Try with filter and play with contrast... ;)

Yeah, I've already tried this but it doesn't work all that well, putting it in a layer with contrast and brightness controls or in a multiply mode on top of a white color layer gives you some control but it's not enough because whatever we do we can not go lower than 0,001 ..

Try to convert the  greyscale bump image to normal map, it works way better.
There's a free normal map generator photoshop plugin by invidia which works well.

There is free plugin height to normal ( http://www.biomekk.com/index.php?page=2&cat=107&itm=13 ), much better than cinema normalizer, you have couple mods and more control..... this work in some situation.
In bump channel put H2N, in texture slot can put filter to make more adjustments. Normal map work better than gray scale bump texture.

I installed H2N, but i cant find the shader in the material. Where is it? ;)

In my case H2N is just above Hair material in shader list. Although I must note that the V2 plugin gives strange results, I think more often than in V1.....
