Hi all. I'm working on a short film with stupid complicated sets like full city and underground stations. I've been on it so long now I've used every possible file format to make my materials over two years. I'm a lot more experienced now but the result is a dizzying array of file formats used to make the materials. In peoples experience are there any formats to steer clear of? For example, in the city I use some video sequences for billboards and some are .png, some are .exr and some .tif and finally .jpeg... Stupid I know but should I avoid any of these inside Corona? Thanks in advance!

moderator's edit: i replaced TIF file with much more reasonable JPG in attachment.

after all the years, i finally settled with jpg in high(est) quality for any 8bit input or also saved 8bit output.
and exr if it needs to be 32bit(or 16), or if you need a layered file for multipass (similar to psd).

for corona probably all format work, maybe not the new webp, which might be a format of the future replacing jpg

Keep in mind that article in burnin's link writes specifically about render output, not input. I use PNG for almost all my 8 bit textures and even sometimes for 16 bit, never ever had problems with that. For typical 8 bit texture even JPG are perfectly fine if they're not too much compressed.

If you don't plan to do any post-processing, then there's nothing wrong to use PNG even for render output.
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.
