Hi,

We discussed this problem in the dailies of V9 but it was never resolved.

Please see the attached video; if I plug in a tonemapcontrol (and untick the lut and tonemapping - unticking exposure doesn't cause the NaN) into direct visibility override I get the Nan error.

Hope this is clear, reproduceable and fixable :)

Hi,

I was not able to reproduce this on a simple scene, using different HDRI maps and doing the steps you mentioned.
This is probably scene and maybe tone mapping) specific.

Please, if possible, attach a simplified scene with the models/textures/maps causing the issue.

Hi,

Thanks for following up on this.

I tested on a blank scene. I did exactly the same process and still get the NaN.

More info; the environment mode is set to screen as I'm not using a HDRi spherical environment map/image.

I checked the image in photoshop, its RGB 8bit. So nothing special/curious there. I tried with a different completely chosen at random jpeg and the problem did not persist! So it must be my image?

I re-sized, re-saved the image multiple times in multiple formats. Still happening. I edited the levels, still happening. Tried with native bitmap texture node. I even took a screenshot of the image and pasted it into a new file... all still gives me the error!

The only luck I had was to change the levels in Photoshop insanely, so it was almost a grey image. No error then. So what's causing this?

The image came from dji drone and happens for all the images in this set.

I'll upload the original image into the private upload area.

Thanks :)

This has been reproduced with few random images, and has been reported.

If there is:

• Direct Visibility override enabled, which has CoronaTonemapControl map with any bitmap
• "Punchy filmic" preset applied in tone mapping settings (building up the same preset one by one with operators did not lead to NaN in my tests)
• Toggling "Tone mapping" option in CoronaTonemapControl map will lead to an NaN error
• Scene can be absolutely empty

The error won't go away and there will be artifact in the render even if the option is enabled/disabled back, nor when resetting tone mapping setting, not after Resetting settings (Render Settings > Scene > Reset settings).
The scene has to be reopened or 3ds Max reopened.

Thanks for reporting this.
