after testing i found the setting blur -100% AND the blur offset of 0.002% does give a nice result, similar to c4d bitmap but actually even a bit better for me (not getting artifacts as the bluroffset 0). this even more let me thing corona bitmap interprets the scene scale wrong

62
i just tested and if the texture is far away the bitmap is really extremely unusable, like super strong dof on the surface!

this is really bad i must say. i hope 11 brings a fix for that(i read some in max forum in 11 daily  that could be related to that)

it not happens if objects are near, but if the scene scale is big the mip mapping goes completely wrong in corona bitmap.
if the corona team wants an extreme example i can forward you one(a wood floor texture, in corona bitmap you see not even the lines anymore)

manually editing all bitmaps to blur scale -100% isnt a workflow thats possible in complex scenes. the corona team should at least set the default to what blurscale -100% does. nobody ever needs such blurry textures, in so scene case i can imagine that to be ok(even if this means a speed loss)

to me it seems like something is wrong with scale by a factor of 100x or even 1000% in regard of blur and blur offset.
-100% is what i consider 0%, the blur offset value is unusable as even at 1 or 0.1% it completely blurs the surface to one solid color, starting at 0.001 it does what is expected(adding a minimal blur in far away party).

so i think maybe the corona bitmap takes the c4d units by a wrong factor multiplied? or it doesnt take the c4d document settings into account(scene scale from small to huge etc)

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: hdri with roof
« on: 2023-09-20, 17:17:55 »
my method is:
used hdri in sky as normal,
then exclude some wall elements from GI.

This way you have still closed looking room with nice hdri GI light/mood coming in.
enhance this with some very soft and weak area lights maybe in the interior if needed.

    Dear All,

as a reminder, the Special is still running with 30% off on all our Material & texture products!

As some asked me, YES the textures come with free bonus shader presets for all texture sets,

    for the following engines:

        Corona render 6-10, (C4d and 3dsmax)
        V-Ray 6 (C4d & 3dsmax)Redshift (C4d)
        Octane (C4D)
        Blender (via blendermarket)

        +also special versions for:
        D5 render (extra sets at 2 & 4k)
        Enscape 3D render  (extra sets at 2 & 4k)[/li]

They of course work in any other render or real time app, like Unreal5 or Twinmotion, Lumion etc.

All are PBR texture sets with all needed channels at 8k, seamless of course,

derived from real-world Photos we took.

"No, it's not. Corona only look good if it don't put beside V-ray. "

well, from what and how you put things, it seems you yet lack some render or at least corona knowledge yet, so why not better ask for help if you have an issue?
that is normally better than making such statements right away. (the way you put it it comes more as a troll like comment. please note i am a user myself and not part of chaos)
there is a reason why many of the best archviz studios world wide use corona render as their first choice. it does have outstanding render and gi quality.

i have deep knowledge of both engines, (used vray probably as the first vray user on c4d) overall, and i love vray and corona as well. both are great, also in gi.
as you might know both are developed by the Chaosgroup team, they share their knowledge and technology.

Both use in fact pretty similar GI methods (like BF/LC), with only slight differences.
stronger differences are in the used render settings, the way materials settings work, ray depths etc., and even more in default vfb tone mapping settings.

what you see are the tone mapping differences that vray and corona have in their default settings. it seems also you have a not so well set leave material in the corona tree version. probably too high ior and too much transmission. vray in default is pure neutral, where corona has the today very common new ACIS style active as default , which many like, but can be too dark i agree, if used as full 1.0.

best share both scenes that we might be able to help you

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona render lack so much GI
« on: 2023-09-03, 15:03:39 »
Corona has one of the best GI i know from the current render apps.

Vray has more bounces per default(100) thats true, but when rendering Corona interiors one see the default 25 bounce in Corona produces a similar if not better look.
(by the way vray at 25 bounces looks also same as vray with 100 bounces. so it seems the extra bounces have only minimal effect)

from your tests you seem to use a very different tone mapping than for the others, and it seems you yet miss some knowledge on corona setup (see your leave material)

best as Dave said share your scene;)

Dear all fellow Corona C4D users,
I want to show you our C4d and corona-focused site 3dtools.info. We offer high class real-world Corona Materials and helpful C4d plugins and also Corona engine compatibl3(c4d only):

2) I want to highlight our Corona compatible high res, 8k, seamless, photo real world based DNA|MATERIAL SETS (PBR texture sets+ corona shaders).
The Materials are focused on ArchViz , but can be also used for designers, staging etc.

All Materials are all hand processed by is, not artificial generated (no substance use!). They offer great detail, variation and big surface sizes (5-10m square mostly). All are derived from real-world surface sources.
We offer them a greatly affordable prices of only 1 or less Euro per Material set. (if bought in a Bundle)

So the bundles are available at a special price atm, with MINUS 30% Summer Special, so if you want some it is now a good time to save a bit money.

The presets come also with 1 click import assets sets for the new C4D asset browser with nice custom previews, this is one of my favourite work flow enhancements, i use the materials myself via the c4dasset browser now, where one can simple choose and drag and drop them into the scene or onto objects.

Here you find all DNA|Material Textures:  https://3dtools.info/dna-materials

Here you find our C4d and corona compatible plugins: https://3dtools.info

i want to highlight our great plugin TILEPRO (like 3dsmax Bercon tiles, only a lot more powerful!):  https://3dtools.info/tilepro/

i wonder, in vray dof seems to have almost no slowdown compared to no dof,
in corona it makes the render quite a lot slower. also with this new feature.

now corona seems faster overall than vray, but still i also hoped this would come more in direction as vray solved dof. without any headache.

i know it is yet marked "experimenal", so i hope this gets faster and more polished in final version.

73
i have a 11 gb dump file created from task manager. shall i send this to the corona team?

please for answers, this is quite a problem sadly for me, hope ti can get solved

thanks!
Stefan

the freezes i get in animation seem to be connected with texture loading.

as soon i deactivate the used texture path, there is no freeze,
when i reactivate it(in c4d refs /files) it freezes again after around 20 frames.

this only happens in Corona render, not on other renders on same hardware, so it must be some issue with corona, texture loading and animation.
any idea from Corona stuff, any i can do or test more?

pls help, i need to animate things in corona, otherwise i need to switch to another renderer for animations, which i prefer not to.
