[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona render lack so much GI
« on: 2023-09-03, 14:32:05 »
you will need to share the scene so others can check parameters I think. It's not the sun thats the issue per se - the look I will depend on if it's reflecting the sky (visible or not) and what the light has to bounce off on the floor. And how there parameters change between the other tests.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Convert VRay Scenes to Corona
« on: 2023-09-02, 17:12:26 »
I have the v-ray licence and v-ray installed. The problem is that there is no corona for maya so I can't convert there. The export from maya just creates default materials.

The cinema 4d file is currently using VrayScenes created in Maya (Vrayscenes are a bit like x-refs - they are importable and renderable in any DCC with V-ray installed). But there doesnt seem to be a way to convert them to Corona directly. They are a closed box.

I think I'm screwed TBH. No porblem converting one or two by hand, but it is a full house interior full of ornaments etc.

Afraid not. That doesn't bring the materials over unfortunately

Oh, in case its useful the original elements are in Maya. If I try and export fbx it will just ignore the v-ray materials, so I can't work out any simple way of getting them into C4D/Corona witghout remaking every material from scratch. Woe is me.

[C4D] I need help! / Convert VRay Scenes to Corona
« on: 2023-09-01, 11:39:25 »
Hi All - I've hot a large scene (in c4d) using lots of VRayScene elements. Is there any way of converting these to Corona?

Thanks Evan - but I dont think this works for stacked or alpha'd materials.

Seems like decals are the way to go. I just worry about them being less 'sticky' than the regular way. More prone to be accidetally nudged etc.

Nice!

I bought a couple of your interiors before - I always like the look you get.
A question though... Are you managing to get the subtle textured plastics done with bump alone?

I've pretty given up on coronas bump, as I can never get it crisp enough and have resorted to using displacement for textured like this. But it seems like overkill for the scale

Ah, good to hear I'm not stupid; bad to hear its not possible :)

I nomally make a second render of labels  by pasting a simple black and white material into the luminosity slot and turning the lights off - it's an extra step which I'd rather not take, but it's better han nothing.

[C4D] General Discussion / Material ID - am I being stupid?
« on: 2023-08-11, 10:15:33 »
Hola - I constantly use Object IDs to get nice masks for post work. But occasionally Id rather use Material IDs instead for logos etc - but I can't seem to gt them to work?

I assign a material ID number in the advanced field of the material. Then make a multipass mask and assign the material id number there too. But the mask just come out black. It also doesnt appear if I make an ID pass and set it to material.

Is this a limitation of stacked materials/materials with alphas? Or am I doing something wrong.

Theres an example of what I'm trying to achieve attached. Orange base material with the alpha masked logo stacked on top.

[C4D] Feature Requests / Re: Corona sun gobos please
« on: 2023-08-10, 16:34:07 »
Since you can now add textures to lights in Corona 10 we're getting closer.... But the real trouble is that the strongly increasing the directionallity in corona lights (which is absolutely necessary) causes the need for many, many more samples and it makes renders un-usably slow.

Using redshift for example, you just focus the light and it has no noticable speed hit or firefly problems.

I think the name of this thread is misleading - we're not talking about using the actual Corona Sun. We're talking about making fake sunlight effects on walls where there isnt a full room build or we're already lighting with an hdri and just need some extra 'interest' in particular spot.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: Corona 10 - CRASHES A LOT
« on: 2023-08-08, 15:54:01 »
Personally it happens if i press Render to Picture Viewer while Interactive Viewport on. Not 100% of the time but fairly often.
if I remember to disable interactive viewport first then there's no issue

FWIW I often have crashes starting a render when interactive VIEWPORT is already active. Is this what you mean? Same issues has persisted forever. Except for this I find Corona to be very stable

I work with lots of CAD from industrial designers (usually stp) and C4D handes it really well since R21.
Never used Max, but it certainly beats the other apps I'd tried for that.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Coming back to Corona
« on: 2023-07-26, 16:26:37 »
Just the usual thoughts - corona is still more straightforward, slightly quicker (usually), and looks nicer (subjectively).
Lots of the updates that have happened in V-ray have also happened in corona (chaos scatter, cosmos, enmesh/pattern, decal etc.)
Some of the more pipeline based tools available in V-ray may not be in corona though, and yes, you'd better go back to using x-refs. And dont bother asking for GPU implementation :)

Sorry, just saw this reply. Coronatools looks like its the wrong way round though - I need corona to v-ray conversions,
