[C4D] General Discussion / April Fools day!
« on: 2022-04-01, 12:18:54 »
Ha!  I like the April Fools day feature guys :-)

I won't give the game away but it made me laugh...

I will add to this by saying that when I was searching for a CPU render engine for my Mac C4D, it was between Arnold and Corona. Corona seemed a little faster and easier to set up, but the final decision came down to Corona came with 3 render nodes.

This! This is exactly why I use Corona and not V-Ray or Arnold and why I ditched my Redshift subscription years ago. Render nodes (at least a few) should be a given. We're not getting another seat to twiddle things, we're just feeding our renders into a 'virtual' faster machine.... I do understand having loads is taking the piss a bit but perhaps 4 should be offered with the standalone...
I'm saying this as a user who has 4 from years of subscribing and trust me, I'm never going back to another engine as I love Corona and I love how it's matured over the years. Just my 2 cents....

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: New Tool From Insydium

Particles don't work natively but all their otehr stuff is just surfaces you can attach materials to so no problems. I subscribed to Fused for a year when it came out but stopped in the end as I already had a permanent X-Particles license and the other stuff is not that practical for me or just rebranded Merk plugins (I think). It's way too expensive to justify when I'll only use one or two parts of it. I only subscribed as I thought the landscape generator was cool, and it was, kind of... but there are tons of them out there and others are better. Nowadays I just use displaced planes :-).

For me, same goes for the plant generator; unless you have a specific use case then it's much cheaper/faster/easier to just get some ready-made plants and use them. If you want to animate them growing then yes, it looks very cool and I'm sure it will work with Corona. Don't forget Forester from 3DQuakers also grows really nice plants and trees and has a library of both.

Horses for courses I guess...

It's working fine for me..

Actually ignore this. I didn't see the 'proxies' bit... I never use proxies so can't help I"m afraid. Sorry

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Further fate of the Legacy
« on: 2022-01-18, 12:31:06 »
I hope we don't lose the legacy material. Sometimes it's necessary to make 'fake' materials that can't be made with the physical... For example sometimes I want a different IOR for refraction than for reflection. That can't be done with the new physical material.

You need to make sure you're adding a Sun too and not just the sky object.

Turns out there's a known issue: Here's a reply I got from Maxon support.

Unfortunately there exists a problem in combination of macOS 12 with our latest update.
We are aware of the issue and have reported it to our developers.

Here is an installer for the previous update Cinema 4D R25.113:
https://www.maxon.net/en/downloads/cinema-4d-r25-downloads

Please install this version, and it will roll you back to a more stable release till we can get this sorted with the developers.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Well, it's defnitely R25 and not Corona. Phew!

I installed S24 and all the same plugins and everything works perfectly and super fast. Went back to R25 and opened a super simple scene and it crashed just by rotating an object!

This is a pain as I've finally got my head around the R25 interface and quite like it. Perhaps I'll have to go back to the original R25 release as that was much more stable... Ho Hum.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Bengamin,

No actually. That's a good idea. I was using R25 to get native M1 performance, having used R20 for years... (although the problem scenes were made from scratch in R25, just before the latest build).
I'll install R24 and see if that changes anything.

Thanks

Sorry but this is not helpful as I can't nail down the issue but since updateing to the latest V8 build I'm seeing many more crashes. Cinema just blinks out. Not even a freeze, it just disappears. It's usually after I've set the interactive render going and click on something or move the view but I can't be certain what it is.. This is the first time I've had this with Corona and nothing else has changed since I updated (although there was a recent R25 auto update...). It may not even be Corona of course, but it seems to be after the update. I'd go back a build but the NaN issue is actually more of a pain so I'll put up with the crashes for a bit :-)

Anyway, if I can figure out whats doing it I'll let you know. Just thought I'd mention it in case others are seeing increased crashes too.

R25
Macbook Pro M1 Max 64Gb.

Edit:  OK, it seems to be happening with scenes that were created using a previous build that I'm now trying to render/work on in the current build. I managed to get one scene working fine by opening and immediately copying everything to a new blank scene and saving that. Then the new scene works fine. Could this mean it's nothing to do with the objects/textures but more the scene settings??? Hmmmm. Maybe a fluke but worth a try.

Cheers
Roger

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Extremely Slow render times
« on: 2022-01-04, 14:21:06 »
Just to add; I've been using Corona for years and I don't think I've ever used more than 15 passes with the advanced denoiser set to 0.5 or 0.65.. Never had an issue with noise. Remember that some noise can actually help your scene look more realistic. Like film grain from a camera. There's no law says you have to eliminate all of it.

Purchased! Great idea.... I've been looking for a way of doing this quickly for ages! Many thanks.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: Corona Sky issue with reflections
« on: 2021-12-28, 10:30:37 »
For me this seems to have been fixed in the latest build. It's been an issue since the start of V8 in most scenes but the 20th Dec build has fixed it.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona for Apple Silicon M1?
« on: 2021-12-18, 11:39:46 »
I was blown away by how nice Graswald looked and so cheap! I bought the whole asset pack!

Yeah, Redshift is not so fast even on M1 and personally I don't think it looks as good as Corona. Octane is probably fast but again, it looks cold and heartless compared to Corona. Cycles is coming to M1 via the new metal backend but when I downloaded the recent Blender Alpha and tried it it wasn't that much faster than Corona and again, not as nice. The only good competition is V-Ray, which is way too expensive once you look at render nodes and Arnold, which is not M1 optimised and doesn't look like it will be any time soon

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Team render with differing RAM
« on: 2021-12-18, 10:15:46 »
Sorry for the late reply.

The Macbook Pro is connected via ethernet into a hub. WiFi isn't even on.
There was an issue with cinevercity plugins in the python console at first, also some Nitro 3d ones but I took all of them out to see if that helped and it made no difference. It wasn't that they were missing but that they had conflicting plugin numbers or something like that.
The Laubwerk trees are fine if rendering on each machine without TR so I just freeze them to work over TR. They don't use the database anyhow as they have their own browser.
All machines ping and connect fine. It's not that they don't start rendering but that they drop out. If I TR to my 64Gb PC it's the same, not just to the mac mini.

I should point out that this is when rendering a single image and not a sequence. The sequence issue was only the trees, which I can work-around. I render mainly single images but they're high res. Upwards of 10000x10000 pixels sometimes. They used to render fine in Corona V7 over TR and that's one reason I love Corona; because you can render single images with TR just like native Cinema.

I'm going to re-install V7 today and see if it works now. I'm not sure I had R25 when I last used V7 so I'll let you know. I guess if V7 works then it's deffo a V8 issue.

Thanks
Roger
