Hmmm ...
I've done some tests. After loading .crx VFB continues rendering but image is black.

Can you give more information, such as the steps followed, Mac or PC, etc? Also, does the saved cxr look correct when opened in the Corona Image Editor for example?

Here's what I tested and it worked (C4D R19, PC, latest Corona daily)
- Load scene
- Render in VFB for 10 passes
- Save to CXR from the VFB save dropdown
- Close C4D
- Reopen C4D and reload the scene (the same scene has to be loaded)
- From the VFB, choose the Resume file option from the Render dropdown
- The rendering picked up from where it left off

Thanks!

Not sure if it was reported - if I have an animated scene, when I change frames in the timeline with IR running, IR doesn't udpate (it does redraw, but the scene doesn't update - in this case it was a simple object rotating via keyframed animation).

If you want separate control over the lighting intensity and the visible look, you can use a rayswitch material, see https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000005460-what-is-rayswitch-material-and-map-

Create your Light Material as before only this time uncheck Emit light (it will still work in this case! If you leave it enabled it will bleed through into the visible when using it in this way). Add it to the GI slot of the RaySwitch. Duplicate that LightMaterial, and add it to the other three slots. Now you can control the lighting cast into the scene with the intensity of the first LightMtl, and the brightness of the visible / reflected / refracted version with the intensity of the second.

Here's a grab of the RaySwitch setup, and an example where I exaggerated the difference:

TY! I will be sure to test :)

Hi all!

Don't think I've seen this reported.

I can't pin down exact steps, but when I've been working with a scene with the Shadowcatcher in it, I am getting very regular crashes that happen when I render for something more than the 1st time. Sometimes it's the 4th time, sometimes the 8th time. The 1st time always seems to render fine. It seems to be related to having changed something in the Shadowcatcher material, and maybe also related to having the Shadowcatcher material open for editing.

Doesn't seem to matter if the Shadowcatcher is in Environment or Backplate mode. In both cases I've been using a Corona Light Material in the Shadowcatcher's slot.

The scene is basic, plane for the shadowcatcher, then a simple bench object, though had the same crashes with a more complex car object too. Bug report text is attached in case it is helpful.

C4D R19, and C4D R18 (bug report is from R19), Corona Oct 9th build.

Thanks!

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: light material on sky

Sure - if this is the same one, it was due to having a Corona Sky Tag on the Sky object along with the HDRI material. Only the HDRI material should be used, as a Sky object can only have one "active" material on it. With both applied, while the HDRI showed up in the realtime viewport in C4D, only the CoronaSky tag was being used in the render. Deleting the Sky tag and leaving just the HDRI got the required result (also, changing to a Corona Light Material rather than a Corona Material was done too).

I think this is one that was resolved via Facebook PM, let me know if it's a different report though :)

Ah, I see! A procedural map for creating a texture that can be dropped into the CoronaLight texture slot.

TY! Now I see what you are referring to - I get the same result. The Viewport preview size parameter in a Corona Material only has an effect on the quality of the preview in the viewport up to 256x256, and values higher than that do not show increased quality. A native C4D material works as expected and the higher values in its equivalent preview setting continue to raise the quality in the realtime viewport.

Image attached of the setting in the Corona Material, and the HDRI image used on the sphere won't get any sharper with 512x512 and up. Test was C4D R19, and Corona Sep 29th build.

EDIT just for comparison, a grab using the same HDRI in a native C4D material.

Hi Mitchino!

Sorry to hear your having problems - I'm not quite sure what problem you are experiencing is though. Could you share some screengrabs showing what you mean? A material preview usually refers to the sphere in the material editor section of C4D, but you mention perspective view so I think you mean the way the material looks in the C4D viewport?

Thanks!

Maybe I am misunderstanding about the softbox texture, but isn't this currently possible by dropping a texture map into the CoronaLight's Texmap option? Images below are standard CoronaLight, CoronaLight with same settings with a softbox texture applied, and the grab of the light's parameters.

Let me know how it works for you! Doesn't take away from this being a bug and we'll get it fixed as noted, but may provide a way of avoiding redoing that overnight render in the meantime.

The sky material wouldn't go into the material override - what that will do is make every object render with that material applied and is generally used to make clay renders for test purposes (see https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035829-how-to-create-clay-renders-in-corona-renderer-for-cinema-4d-)

One thing though, for the Sky material, the CoronaLight material should be used (see https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000030781-how-to-set-up-hdri-environment-in-corona-for-c4d-)

As soon as you have added that CoronaLight material to the Sky object, it will both create lighting, and generate reflections, refractions etc. and you can stop there :)

That's not to say that the crash isn't something that might need fixing, as the Mtl Override should work with any material placed in, but it does mean you can avoid that crash in setting up your scene as it is not a step you should be doing. If there was something specific you wanted to achieve other than have an HDRI image used for lighting, background, reflections and refractions though, let us know!

There is currently an issue with the Global fog material in recent builds (the ones with IR). I've reported it on Mantis - the Volume material on objects still works though (just be sure the camera clipping plane is outside the fog object). Once all is up and running as expected again, be sure to check the helpdesk article on the topic - https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000035577-how-to-use-volumetrics-
