[C4D] I need help! / Licence server woes...

Today's problem.... I need to use my laptop for a client visit. But my Corona licence is showing as in-use by my workstation (which is turned off and is absolutely not running cinema).

And there seems to be absolutely nowhere on the Chaos licence server to unassign the license so it becomes free. Nothing in the help I can see either.

How can I (quickly) unassign it?  The time I shoould be prepping for my meeting is being wasted googling answers on this :(



PS. In general I find the server to be PITA. It often pops up with license unavailable 'prompts' without any good reason. I know it falls into Chaos's responsibility rather than the Corona devs. But if you can... have a whisper in their ear.

I thinnk its because you are trying to combine one material with SSS and one with volumetrics. Try using SSS for both

It was a fair query.... while it was not correct for the normals to be this way... I still would not expect it to have effected the glossiness of the material. If any devs have an explanation I'd be interested to hear how this works.

The problem is your model - it has inverted normals. Flip them the right way round and the problem disappears.

just tested on my end - no  problems directly copying the material directly from the material library (see screengrab). Running V8.

Have you perhaps swapped the roughness/glossyness defaults?

You can achieve much the same result by moving the node path into the luminosity slot. But that is a faff, and it would be much preferable to have the functionallity added properly.

I dont know where you get your texture maps. But places like Poliigon will supply multiple resolution versions of the same texture. Most likely 4k is overkill unless you are showing elements in close-up. 2k is often fine, and will help out hugely with memory issues

yeah - displacement map looks inverted to me too.
Invert the disp' map if you cant fix the normals

Looks like the classic 'Invert Y' issue. Maybe the tick-box got unticked after the update?

Speaking of which - it would be really good if Corona Devs could clarify when the Normal maps needs to have the colours flipped? Ie say which colour needs to point up, and although there are not often options - is it the GX or DL model that Corona prefers?

I think if using GL model with Cyan up then you need to Flip Y. Is this correct?

Nost of the time I just guess :)

Hi TomG - I know you dont have control over this - but thought you may have an inside track - so I'll ask anyway... 

Do you know how quickly renderfarms will start supporting V8? Do they normally wait for the first hotfix or start straightaway?

I'd love to start using V8 - it has some great new tools - but I'm working on a project that will need renderfarm support in the next two weeks.

Just to chime in - i've done quite a few projects with droplets on shiny surfaces in Corona - and I've frequently found them too dark when I'm using caustics.
I normally make sure I have the water element as a mask so I can adjust them in post.

How much of this is a defficiency in corona vs my preception not matching reality I'm not sure. But there is an example attached.... my gut feeling is that I need something inbetween.
