I've been playing round alot with lightmix lately, but as it doesn't have denoise function. What is the correct way to comp lightselect layers so that it is the same as light mix if anyone has a workflow for this that would be greatly appreciated

I found this method is kind of the way around it, as long as you know what the duplicates are. It replaces the duplicate Material Tags by choosing one material tag, then you delete unused materials as they are no longer tags in the scene.

Hope this helps some people in the mean time, until Delete duplicates is back up and running (y)

Spot on, That's an easy way to know. cheers

[C4D] General Discussion / Light Direction - Viewport Icon
« on: 2020-07-21, 13:43:30 »
Just wondering how you can tell the light direction from the viewport icon? In max you have it so the Light direction is shown as little rays coming from the rectangle. In Cinema it is just a star in the centre of the rectangle. Bit confusing to me to have it shown like this. Maybe there's a way of showing it as a direction

Pics of
c4d Disk light (Star in centre)
3ds max Disk light (Directional Rays)

Can vray scenes be converted to corona, like in 3dsmax or was that support not implemented?

Thanks Romullus.

Although this is an issue / bug, It looks like i have asked previously about this and the member NOOKTA has a great workaround for this.

It would be good if Layered Materials could be saved as Presets, but unfortunately they seem to lose their links as shown above.

Below is the workaround:

Has anyone found a way to save corona layered materials in the content browser, without losing it's connections.

Say for example i have a Leaf material, with a Front and back side in a layered material. Once save to content browser and brought back in to C4d R21, it still brings in the materials but not in the layered Material.

https://www.rendertaxi.de/blog/en/how-to-create-and-set-up-corona-proxies-in-cinema-4d/

Just reading this article on proxies. I always had trouble getting them to work, but i see you need to put the texture tags from the original model on to the proxy for it to show materials! A little different to 3ds Max.

However, they mention in the last paragraph that :

"Nevertheless there’s still a big drawback when using corona proxies in cinema 4d being that the visor of Cinema 4D becomes very slow while working with proxies using any display modes of the proxies. We actually don’t know if it’s a Corona performance issue or a problem native of Cinema 4D which is not yet able to handle the proxies. We hope that Corona or Maxon developers work together to solve this inconvenience soon!"

I remember when i used 3ds Max, the huge benefit proxies had on Chunky scenes. I was just wondering if the dev's got to the bottom of this?

for modelling maybe start with a lathe, then shell inwards . split off the internal faces, shell these, split off internal faces again shell these. cap them all. maybe some sort of FFD to warp it. Then apply varying glass shaders to get this affect. Maybe some falloff to get the shading effect.

Got to agree with this. I brought this up with someone in work and they said it used to work. Got everything duplicating in a project although they're all same mats with same properties. Hopefully they can fix it

Heyy,
Can you save a scene with the issue and we can see if we can replicate it for you?

Hey,

I've recently attended the state of art academy ADX in Venice, very inspiring people and talks going on there. There was a lot of film footage being taken so maybe thats available online for you guys to watch. "D2" is another conference that deals with cgi / archviz. I will see if i can find any and post a link later

« on: 2019-10-10, 09:48:20 »
Hey there,

You could maybe try Light portals over the openings of your windows in your interior scene.

They help force the computational power to focus on the room the light in the room and less on the whole scene. Remember, there is always noise in real life, so a little doesn't affect the image :).

Or take some out in photoshop with CameraRAW, Details tab/Noise reduction, at the sacrifice of a bit of detail.

Similarly use a little bit of denoise on the image in corona

I use krpano, it is pretty easy to get into and has some nice features for interactivity that you can apply to the code (im no coder :p)

It only works with panoramas though.
