Thanks for the reply Houska.

That all makes perfect sense now...and I guess it was the fact that it worked in the IR made me completely forget that C4D can't do render instances with lights...so yes, confusing indeed.

Glad the multi pass thing is confirmed as a bug. I will wait for the fix.

Can someone from the development team please give a response to my post above from 2 weeks ago?

Thanks.

Hi Corona Team,

Great work on getting Corona working with R21...thanks :-)

Each time a daily build comes out I end up testing the same scene (attached) to see how things are coming along with instancing lights. But the results have always been the same.
If you look at the attached scene, just select the 3 cloners and change the instance modes.
Then compare the IR and VFB/PV.

I know there is a lot of talk about Scatter and multi instancing but I am really finding it hard to work with a lack of render instances when it comes to lights. Of course multi instance support would been even more appreciated!
I use hundreds of lights in the type of work I do and I have two options at present...

1) Set all cloned lights to Instance mode and then have to deal with the usual speed issues associated with that.
2) Set all cloned lights to Render Instances modes and work with IR ok but have to change all cloned lights back to Instance mode at render time as render instances do not work in VFB/PV.

I am sure you can appreciate both options above are not ideal.

Another issue is with lights that are set to "Visible" seem to ignore the light select in multi pass. Take a look at the front lights in the light mix in the attached scene. This then means I have to ditch cloners altogether and have individual lights just so I can use light mix.
The light beams are correctly assigned but the visible "source" gets assigned to "rest unassigned" but that becomes an issue when I have lots of different visible lights all assigned to "rest".

I am hoping you can give some sort of indication on where you are with solving the issues relating to all this. Having had the same issues since Corona 3 I am getting a bit concerned that this is not a priority.
I appreciate that this might not affect other users as much as it does for me but I would like to know where I stand so I can make an informed decision about what I do going forward.

Thanks.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Sky with Bloom and Glare
« on: 2019-08-22, 17:02:40 »
Thanks for the info Tom.

I did try the threshold but could never get the right balance. I must admit I am not sure how it is supposed to work as I could not find it in the help file.
If my Threshold is set to 10, does that mean only lights./light materials with a value of 10 or more will have bloom/glare applied to them or is it something else?

Thanks.

[C4D] I need help! / Sky with Bloom and Glare
« on: 2019-08-22, 16:30:41 »
Not sure if I am missing something obvious but hopefully someone can help me. I did look online but only found a reference that was over two years ago so not sure if things have changed.

I have a scene with some objects that all have a light material on them. Also included in the scene is a corona sky with an HDRI in the light material attached to it.

I have the objects and Sky placed in various Light Mix/Light Selects so I can have individual control over them in the CIE.

I like the effect I am getting on the objects with my Bloom but want the sky to ignore any Bloom/Glare settings. No matter what I do I can't seem to get it to work. Is this actually possible without going the PS route?

Thanks :-)

Multi-Instances do work (for me at least).  They don't work in IR but I have been using them perfectly well in the VFB.

With Corona lights it does not work (IR or VFB).

Thanks for the update...always nice to know that it was not pilot error like it often is with me :-)

hi Houska,

I just uploaded again but this time using the dropbox link. It is called "Staff Rig Visibility Issue".

9
Hi Houska,

Joren kindly said I could send you the rig to help find the issue.
I have uploaded it to the link in your signature. Let me know if it did not work as I never got any confirmation. Not sure what I should see as I have not used the private uploader before.
Please delete file when you find where the problem is.

Thanks.

Just an update on this...

I reached out to Joren and he got the guy who built the rig to take a look. Long story short, he says everything with the rig is working as it should and all is OK in R20 so the issue is most likely with Corona.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Back to Scatter and Instancing...

Ya, sounds like the multi-instance is more important as the first step.

I would like to see a fix for the "render instance" mode first as I am still seeing issues with this mode...especially with lights. If you add Multi Instance support at the same time then I am even more happy :-)
Render instance works in the IR but not in the VFB so I have to change all my cloner modes at render time which can be a bit of a pain...especially when you forget one of them :-)
This has been like it since Corona 3 and I check every new release for this being fixed and still no improvement.

Using C4D and Corona today with lots of instancing (most of my scenes) just makes things harder than they should be and I am sure you can appreciate that this is frustrating. Hopefully things will be implemented/fixed soon. Maybe you can give us an estimate on when you hope to have these changes?

Thanks

, but if you were able to create a similar object with the same issues, that would be great.

I have not been able to recreate this.

For starters, does the rig at least work as demonstrated with release you're using?

Everything works as it should do in R20. The only issue I have discovered is the one I mentioned originally.

I will reach out to Joren from Pixel lab and see if he can add anything. I will keep you posted.

Cheers

Hi Burnin,

I tried turning them all off and then deleted the layer and still the same result.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated :-)

Hi,

I am using the Scaffolding rig from the Pixel lab and decided to make the materials Corona based. All went well until I noticed that rendering in the IR made some objects that were hidden suddenly appear.
There is a lot of instancing going on with this rig and I checked through and could not find any errors with visibility settings (traffic lights).

If you look at the screen shots you will see everything appears as it should in the viewport but the IR shows extra objects that should be hidden.
I have also included an image rendered to the PV and this is OK and shows what is in the VP. Rendering to the VFB also gives the correct result.

I am thinking this could be related to "render instances" but my past experience of this has been that render instance objects do not appear at all and they have not ignored the traffic light settings.

Any thoughts?

Using Corona 4 hotfix1
OSX-10.14.5
C4D R20

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I played with the "keep sharp pattern" and checked all my Corona lights were set to area (they were).

I guess saying what looks better between the Corona light and the C4D light is subjective. It also depends on the IES file as I prefer the C4D light on the left and right scenes but the Corona light in the centre.
Either way, accuracy is what I am searching for and sadly some lights just have poor light distribution and we can only talk to the light manufacturer for that :-)

Do you plan on updating the code to make use of the IES parameters you are not using at present? Like I said, accuracy is what I am after here.

Thanks.
