General CG Discussion / Designer Furniture Downloads
« on: 2021-11-02, 14:25:40 »
Has anyone had experience from downloading designer furniture from furniture websites? They seam to come without any textures included on them. Would it be best to add my own textures to them?

Also dose anyone know of other websites what are great for getting furniture models?

Thanks in advance!

General CG Discussion / CGAxis Models
« on: 2021-10-19, 16:57:15 »
Just wondering if anyone has been using models from CGAxis and what the quality of them is like. There is an offer on there subscription plan with 60% off.

Anyone have any thoughts on this since there seams to be a lot of models on there. Thanks!

Great work on this!

Don't suppose you would be able to share the model for me to test around with material and lighting on it?

[Max] I need help! / Re: HDRI - Multiplier Value
« on: 2021-07-16, 16:43:39 »
I have recently been using HDRI's from PG Skies and also 3D Collective. A lot of the guides have been saying use the multiplier value (Eg 3D Collective say +32).

Where would I find this? It seams like my skies do not have the same wow factor as shown on the websites.

In bitmap, or Corona bitmap parameter window expand output rollout and adjust output amount. It's essentially the same as multiplier. Keep in mind that this will increase, or decrease brightness of HDRI lighting, but won't affect quality of the lighting in any other way. If you feel that your lighting doesn't look as good as in provider's examples, it might be that you're loading HDRI with incorrect gamma.

Thanks! Really helpful!

I have started to test around with using a different output gamma, would you say these are looking better ?

Hook your hdri in OSL Environment.
There are plenty of settings there, you
can play with the exposure value.

I’ll have a play around with them setting and see what I can do! I was using a corona bitmap with a colour correct.

Is there any changes with the physical camera I should change or just keep it standard?

I have been using a physical camera with basic setting, or should I be using a corona camera?

Any help would be amazing!

[Max] I need help! / Re: Best Grass Models / Realistic ?
« on: 2021-04-30, 19:01:19 »
I think the best idea would be to define your issues first. Why exactly do you consider your current grass models "not good enough"? Is it for close-ups, or overviews of a grass lawn, or maybe huge landscapes?
Can you post some example renders that you are getting and some reference renders/photos of what you would like to get?
Otherwise it's really hard to come up with some specific solution. :)

Maybe this guide can help you?

Thank you for the link, I will give that a read and see if anything will help me.

Its mainly for lawns around my buildings. (Abit like the one I have attached)

[Max] I need help! / Best Grass Models / Realistic ?
« on: 2021-04-28, 18:23:27 »
I am looking to make a realistic grass model, but everything I am trying seams to not look photorealistic? I'm using forest pack and there preset's but these seam to not look too good.

Has anyone got any tips or advice on the best Grass texture / Models?

Resolution kind of depends on where the image is going to be displayed, but there is nothing wrong with the resolution you are using in the example you posted. It's pretty close to the standard "4K" resolution.

I agree that the problem probably isn't sharpness in the image, but rather that you should focus on working with your materials and lighting.

From what I can see in the image, it looks like there is a problem with the displacement on the roof and brick materials. Like already mentioned, you could go to Render setup -> displacement -> screen size = 1. But the default size of 2 should be fine unless you are doing a high quality final render.

Remember that if you are moving the camera during interactive rendering, you need to restart the render for displacement to update - it only calculates what is visible in the viewport when you first start the render.

Also, try modeling the wood slats instead of displacing the material - try something like the Floor Generator plugin, it's perfect for stuff like this if you tweak the size / spacing / extrusion.

Thank you very much for the advice. When I test around with a render tomorrow I will post a improved version. Be helpful to get a review on it and any changes you would make after I improved

I use default settings all the time but I think sharpness can come from a few elements combined. Try to use good high res/ quality textures especially on the main elements of your render (I usually set the bitmap filter to 0,1) and render at least a 3k 4k image. For noise level I usually target 3% but 4% can already look good in some cases. If it's done right you should be able to avoid sharpening in VBF or postproduction completely... but bit of contrast or clarity can also help. Hope these help :)

That's great, I will have a test around with this on the render I'm working on now, Thanks a lot for the help!

Really nice project here, well done!

Could you show what settings used for it. Trying to make my render as crisp as this, Thanks.

Typical setup? You mean render settings? I honestly can't remember when last time i used anything else than default settings. Unless you have some specific issues, there's not much reason to fiddle with render settings.

Yeah like a typical size to render at / Pass limit or anything like that

Sorry about all the questions, quite new to rendering

If you think that your render lacks sharpness (which i think it does not), then standard procedure is to apply it in post, either in Corona VFB, or externally in photoshop or somewhere else. There's no render setup that would make your renderer significantly sharper, but there are some settings that may help you in certain areas. For example, if you think that your textures are too blurry, then you should look at bitmap filterring and blurring settings in each texture node. On the other hand, if you feel that overall image is a bit too soft (especially on high contrast areas), then you can try to decrease image filterring radius in render setup and/or change image filter type to a sharper one. In any case, don't expect to see significant changes. If you need even more sharpness, then as i said above, apply it in post. All in all, it's always good idea to render a little bit softer and apply sharpening later. Remember - you can easily sharpen soft image in post, but it's much harder to soften oversharpened image.

Thanks for that, I can have a play around with some of these settings today and see if they work any better.

Any chance you would be able to share a typical setup for me to copy?

Thanks for the replays, I will give them a try today.

Is it possible to share a standard setup with me, just so I can copy the setting and apply them to my render?
