[Max] I need help! / Re: Can't do perspective match
« on: 2023-09-13, 14:10:14 »

Simply try to match the handles to their correct axis lines and if your reference object is going out of the frame then consider zooming out the camera or moving the object so it is in front of the camera. It is normal for the objects on the viewport to move when you change the axis handles. It takes a bit of trial-error and practise to perfectly nail the camera match to your Images.

Thank you for your reply. All the lines cannot be aligned with the reference photo at the same time. If two axis matches, moving the 3rd one mess it up.

The obvious first thing to improve, is the texture repetition of the facade. You can use CoronaUVWRandomizer (CoronaMappingRandomizer) map to achieve this randomization. The full how-to article is here.

Beside that, keep in mind that eve if the materials are perfectly set up, the lighting is great, the render can still come out not so good, as a very important aspect of the perceived render quality is the composition of the frame. Think about it as if it is a real project (and a real photo). How would the front yard of the house look like? Does there need to be a walkway or not? And other aspects as well. The best thing here is to observe and check many many references (both real photos and renders of others) and keep improving.

From the quick things you can do is to place a direct light (Sun) comping from top right - this will give a contrast to the facade and the whole architecture of the house and make it more dynamic and interesting. Then you can work on the materials and texture. Then you can add some trees/shrubs in the foreground and make the composition more interesting.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for your suggestions. I will keep these in mind for my next project.

I have been trying to do perspective match in 3ds max. But I can't control the vanishing lines properly as shown in YouTube tutorials. It feels like every vanishing line is being affected if I move the handle of a vanishing line. I sometimes lose my reference object too. Can someone suggest me a good tutorial for perspective match or tell me what I am doing wrong? I will appreciate the help. Thank you! I have attached a GIF of how the vanishing line reacts.

Hello good people! I am trying to render an exterior scene inspired by a reference. But I can't get the photorealistic, high-end look of the reference. Can someone suggest to me how I can improve my render quality?Material/resolution/lighting/detailing/etc.; what am I missing? I really appreciate any help you can provide. (It's kind of obvious, but still clarifying the black house is the reference and the brown one is my render.)

If the rest of the map is flat this could be just wrong gamma - make sure your displacement/bump is loaded with 1.0 gamma, not automatic (or 2.2).
Looks like the material was the problem. It was fixed when I turned off the bump map. Thank you for your suggestion.

Do you use displacement on the model or its material? Does the model have turbosmooth modifier which may have different settings for viewport and for render? More info please.
The model was an editable poly with no modifier. Looks like the material was the problem. It was fixed when I turned off the bump map. Thank you for your suggestion.

Kindly notice the attachments. There is no distortion around the stitches in the model but when I render, there is distortion. Why is this happening? And how can I change this? Thank you.

I would highly recommend to learn basics of UV unwrapping if you want to avoid similar issues in the future. Here's short and quite informative tutorial on youtube. You can see UV seams welding almost at the very beginning of the video.

I appreciate your help. Thank you!

It's not quite clear if you want to say that welding UV seam didn't help, or that you didn't manage to figure out how to actually weld it. Can you clarify this?
I couldn't manage to figure out how to weld it.

Hi, do you need some further help here or can you confirm that the issue is resolved now?
I couldn't get to the actual problem but detaching the polygons solved it somehow, fortunately.

Most likely your UVs have seam here, that's why the texture is not aligned properly. Try to weld the seam - this should fix the issue.
Thanks for your suggestion. I couldn't get it right though. However, detaching the upper polygons solved the problem.

I applied a corona roof material here but it seems as if the roof is not aligned. But as you can see from the clay model it's a single consistent editable poly. I don't understand why this is happening. I will really appreciate any help you can provide.
Also, I cannot see this material in the viewport even after toggling the 'show shaded material in viewport' option. The rest of the material is fine.

your camera looks like orthographic projection is active ("Projection and VR" tab), you have to switch to "Perspective".

Good Luck
Thank you so much!

I simply created a camera but then noticed there is a box around it and the Field of view option is greyed out. I would like to know what happened. Could anyone help me, kindly? Thanks in advance.

Both stats looks good. Generally you would want that cache success rate would be at least 50% As for the rays/sample - 40 is perfectly acceptable for interior, it shows that in your scene is no overly complicated materials, too much AO, or too high albedo. Other stats are also looking normal. It could be that your scene is already pretty much well optimized and there's not much you can do, except to render it on faster computer, or use services of render farms.
Thank you! I will try that.
