Hello,

We are an architecture studio searching for an exceptional visualization agency or artist to partner with for our projects. It is a plus if the artist is comfortable adding some additional detail to models when required and is familiar with modeling specified furniture and lighting.

Please message me with portfolio and availability.
Thanks,

J

Hello,

I recently built a workstation using an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920x. My motherboard is a Asrock Taichi x399 and my CPU cooler a Noctua NH-U14S which was designed specifically for the Threadripper CPUs and apparently performs very well for most people.

I installed the motherboard's utility software and was startled to see that my CPU temp was hovering between 50C ambient and 80+C when rendering, which is way above what I expected. I downloaded 'Core Temp' - which seems to be a pretty popular CPU temp utility, and was relieved but also puzzled when it showed much lower temperatures. It's giving me a reading of 23C ambient right now.

Generally people seem to trust Core Temp above all else, as it apparently measures the temp of the actual CPU interior, but I'm still a little worried about the discrepancy. Is my motherboard utility just a load of bull?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

J

P.S.  Does anyone OC their Threadripper? I've read some stuff online suggesting that you don't get a whole lot of bang for your buck versus with Intel CPUs.

Hello,

I'm searching for some forest & forest-ground assets for a personal project. I found this person's work but I wasn't entirely sure if it was compatible with Corona and 3dsMax. Could anyone confirm that for me? I saw that alot of his assets seem to be geared towards UE4. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

Hello,

I am aware of floor generator and omni tile, which can create customized patterns on a surface. I am using floor generator currently but it cannot simultaneously apply a pattern to two different surfaces. I am having to manually instance a bunch of modifiers onto different objects which is a little clumsy.

Is there any method or product that can apply dynamic patterns onto a whole bunch of objects simultaneously? The application is building facade design.

[Max] I need help! / Dist. Rendering Issues

Hello,

I am having an awful time recently with Distributed Rendering. I'm using UNC, everything is linked to a network folder, nodes and computers are running the latest software and plugins, etc. I keep getting results like the attached where a linked texture doesn't show up and is actually replaced by a mishmash of completely random stuff that isn't even in my scene. I've tried reducing the resolution of textures but that doesn't help either. Weirdly if I isolate the floor geometry it actually renders properly with the nodes.

Does anyone have any advice for me on this? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Can anyone think of a way for someone to incorporate an additional HDRI into their Corona scene for Lightmix purposes? I am using an overcast HDRI in my environment slot, but when I turn this down in Lightmix for 'evening' scenes I have a very black sky.  If I could have an extra domelight or something in the scene with a nice blue HDRI, that I can turn up in Lightmix to get better evening light. I'm working in a big scene with lots of design studies and it's helpful to be able to generate lots of lighting conditions from one camera and scene. Such a great feature, by the way!

Hi all,

Just wanted to get your guys' thoughts on creating animations versus renderings. Is it actually harder to do the former for a client? I got an opportunity recently to create one for a client but I've never done so before. Should I fake it til I make it and just go for it, or would I be stepping into a serious mistake? I think all that the animation would entail is a fly-through of a detailed model—I wouldn't need moving entourage or anything.

Thanks,

What was the single most instructive and growth-producing experience you had in terms of CG artistry and technical skill?

[Max] I need help! / VFB+ and Corona Distributed Rendering
« on: 2016-08-09, 16:57:06 »
Hi all,

I started playing with VFB+ recently and its pretty awesome. What I really miss however is the 'DR' tab in the Corona frame buffer that lets me know if my distributed rendering is going ok, and if there are any problems with my nodes.

Is there some other way I could keep watch on their status while using VFB+? Thanks in advance!

Hi, it would be amazing if Corona Scatter could array objects in a grid, as well as randomly... would be useful for shingles, siding, or arraying lights on ceilings, landscaped gardens, etc.

[Scatter] I need help! / Corona Scatter; creating a grid?
« on: 2016-08-06, 17:29:38 »
Hi all,

Just curious if it is possible to create a grid with Corona Scatter. I love the feature's simplicity and reliability and have been using it recently to scatter lights on ceilings... curious if you can structure elements more.

Thank you!

Hi all,

What are you more experienced folks' thoughts about realtime rendering software like Lumion, or services like this company 'http://www.floored.com/3d-services/'? Do you think that this sort of representation will eclipse traditional arch viz still images in the next 10 years? Will it only become more powerful and effective? Will it be more widely used in high-quality cultural and institutional projects (as opposed to more generic commercial work)?

As young architect interested in visualization I am just trying to think strategically about what skills I invest in. Frankly I much prefer the idea of still images being the dominant visualization format as I think there is more intentionality and capacity for artistry behind them. This debate between 3d realtime stuff and traditional still images may be mirrored in the architecture industry in which the dominance of BIM technology is growing over and above traditional CAD technology. The results undeniably facilitate faster construction and more efficient projects, but many argue it does so at the cost of the design's specificity and the quality of the drawings generated from the BIM model.

Anyways, what are your guys' thoughts? My wife is urging me to think about the changing archviz landscape but I confess I feel inclined to continue focusing on my skills in still imagery.

Hi forum,

I am trying to figure out the best way to tile the attached map onto the curved facade of a building I'm visualizing. The map is flat but the tiles will be 3 dimensional.

I know I can use this map and make displacement maps that should give it the depth it needs... but would I be better served by investing in something like mighty tile or wall and tile plugin to do it? Or railclone? I'm wondering if the result will be better if I can array the 3d tiles along the curved facade and also get some variation from one of these plugins, but I don't know if they can do curved walls. It doesn't seem like it but I'm not sure -- I've been googling for 5-10 minutes and looking on their webpages but all I see are flat walls.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Work in Progress/Tests / Office
« on: 2015-07-28, 23:13:07 »
Hello, I am working on some renderings for a friend's first design project. It is a contemporary office located in China. Here's a second pass at the rendering of an interior working area. The material concept is one side neutral, one side wood textures. What do you guys think—any suggestions to improve the image?

Thanks in advance for your eye.

[Max] I need help! / Mapping & Textures in viewport
« on: 2015-07-13, 16:14:31 »
Hi all, I am trying to figure out how to ensure that all my material textures are displayed in my viewport along with their UVW mapping. Oddly, only some of the materials I use show up in my viewport—some of which are found in the standard Corona material library generously provided by Corona. When I make my own texture with a Corona material, though, it doesn't show up. It slows me down sometimes in my workflow. I am using 3dsMax 2015 and 2016.

Thanks for your response in advance.
